In the last months there has been as much drama off than on the set of ABC's hit series Grey's Anatomy. According to People Magazine, Katherine Heigl dropped out of contract talks supposedly, as the People source said, because she was "disappointed and hurt that ABC Television Studio didn't value her as much as her other costars, especially Sandra Oh and Isaiah Washington."Fans should take this news with a grain of salt as ABC Television Studio just issued a statement to TV Guide claiming that: "Katherine is an integral part of Grey's Anatomy and its success. Fortunately, we have a long term contract to ensure she'll be with the show for several years to come. In recognition of her tremendous talent and value to the show, we recently approached Katherine with an offer to raise her compensation significantly above the terms of her current contract. We were surprised to see this gesture reported negatively in the press, and want to reassure fans that she will continue as Izzie Stevens."
But Heigl's contract dilemma isn't the only event affecting the Grey's Anatomy's cast this week. MSNBC is now reporting that Ellen Pompeo, along with other cast members, is not liking the idea of a spin-off much. MSNBC claims that Pompeo & co. feel "blindsided" and "resentful" towards this new project mostly because they have not been consulted. The Grey's Anatomy spin-off will revolve around character Addison Shepherd, played by Kate Walsh, and will also star Taye Diggs.
For those keeping tabs, the cast of Grey's Anatomy made headlines due to Isaiah Washington's derogatory comments about T.R. Knight, an argument between Washington and Patrick Dempsey, Washington's post-Golden Globes anti-gay comments, Heigl defending Knight, speculation as to what ABC and the show would do with Washington, the latter entering counseling to deal with his "issues", now the Heigl contract deal, and finally the spin-off! It almost sounds like As Grey's Anatomy Turns...

Looks like art is imitating life if this is true. Her character has degraded into one big b$%ch. Ever since the Denny debacle i have not liked her character.

i don't get why ellen is mad since GREY'S anatomy is centered around her, especially the last three episodes.

I read in EW that this IS NOT true. They are working on increasing her wage because they feel that she is due the increase. The studio actually has a long-term contract in place already and they and the actress are only talking about a increase in pay.

RG: If you read the second paragraph of the article, you'll see that the People Magazine article is not true and that they wanted to give her a raise, etc.

Grey's Anatomy pulled in nearly 30 million viewers last week for an episode that wasn't even the best quality. If the cast of Grey's had any sense they would pull a Friends tactic and come together with their demands for better pay. This series is watched in several countries outside the United States, ABC makes money selling them on iTUnes, and they already sold re-airings of the first season to Lifetime. ABC is making money, just like NBC was with Friends. Obviously, the cast of Grey's is not as smart as the cast of Friends. From the sound of things they are quite immature, but that's not surprising, is it? This group sounds quite immature, but again that's not surprising considering this is the first big break for nearly all of them.

This sounds like typical network-contract wrangling. Actors in a new show are required to sign a contract for a certain number of years, but they're usually allowed to renegotiate at a higher rate if the show is particularly successful... unless the network plays hardball and refuses, forcing the actor either to back down or to stand firm and take a drubbing in the press.
The cast of "Friends" got around this by renegotiating as a group, so the network had no choice but to deal with them... But I doubt that would ever happen with the bickering bunch at "Grey's Anatomy."

Heigl is pivatol to the show because she extends to a certain demographic. For one she is the hottest character and she is the most optimistic. Without her the show would crumble into a pile of depressing sob stories...she is the light hearted inspiration of the show.

I am getting really sick of hearing about the 'Denny Debacle' It was one of the best storylines on Grey's so far. Let it go. Also, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is so fricking hot, how can anyone say anything bad?
I love this show. True fans would not disparage it so harshly as it has been the past few weeks. The three part ferry disaster was great tv. Maybe a little farfetched, but nonetheless, great tv, for this fan anyway.

Kate Heigl is one of the main reasons that I and many others watch the show. She is probably the most beautiful woman on tv right now. From what I have read, she is also obviously a good person. She is right to demand as much money or more than her castmates. She has been acting a long time and has at least as good a resume as the other cast members-with Patrick Dempsey as an exception.

Katherine Heigl, who plays Dr. Izzie Stevens, has held her own on Grey's Anatomy. She is just as good as Sandra Oh or Isaiah Washington and she DESERVES a pay hike equal to theirs.
Personally, I love "Izzie" and would stop watch Grey's if she left. The relationship of Izzie and Denny was the best thing on Grey's. Izzie's compassion is something NEEDED on Grey's, otherwise this docotrs would be just another group of narcissists!
Shonda, please do right by Katherine Heigl or the show will pay in the end.

Cast members demanding more.
Cast members bickering about how a spin off is unfair to them.
Cast members infighting about another cast member's sexuality.
Each week it's something else with this bunch. Whoever pegged them as immature above has got it right.
I've said it twice already in this column. Just can't help but say it again. Thanks to too much recognition too soon, the cast will ruin this program. The Dr. Whore Show is on it's way down.

I agree there are a lot of immature antics going on around this show. I lost interest during the last 3 episodes because I am tired of the sappy writing of late.
As for Ms. Heigl I could do without her character and it's feeling of superiority which I think comes from her real life personality. If she were smart she would not have gone on numerous shows to mouth off about her personal feelings about the TR night/I Washington issue. She rubbed me the wrong way during that unfortunate occurance. It's surprising that people think a show can't go on without them. We are so used to change that to have a character be written out is just a blink of an eye. We are forgiving and will forget a character just as easily especially when that character becomes boring, as she is right now.
The show is falling into the same slump that Desperate Housewives did after the first season. It took Marc Cherry to come back and really write some great episodes and get me to buy in to the characters again. But with Grey's I don't want to be dragged into this same old formula. I can walk away from the show right now because it is unappealing and the only characters I am endeared to are those of Chandra and Christina. They are consistent and mature! I am bored with Pompeo, Heigl and Knight. They all remind me of children playing in a sandbox.

Grey's Anatomy is NOT in a slump like DH was last season. Though there are a few of you who enjoy bitching about the show and why you aren't happy, I'm enjoying it and I believe it's still great quality TV. It's not quite as good as Season 2, but is that even possible? Season 2 was so fan-freaking-tastic. The show is in the same situation as The Office in that it's just impossible to reach and surpass that level of greatness.
But anyways, back to this topic. One of the main reasons the show is great is Katharine Heigl. Izzie is one of my favorite characters and the show would definitely suffer without her.

They should have bounced Washington for his reckless behavior and comments.
Creators and network don't need any employee's ( actor's ) permission to spin off a show.
When the off-camera events and coverage becomes more interesting than the show, it's time for the viewer to reassess just why they continue to watch. I did. The writing has suffered this year and the show has degenerated into little more than a sappy soap opera. Too bad; GA started out so promisingly. Bye.

I am sick to death of Izzie - please don't give her a raise and please if you're going to keep the character, write better lines for her...all the whining, sniping at George...awful! Love the Chief, Richard...he is a great actor and love his character...of course, love Dr. Bailey !! She is the reason I keep watching...Meredith, George and Izzie are like bickering kindergardeners...help them grow up please. and please work on giving Christina Yang a heart! Isaiah Washington should be given some slack..he is a great actor too..his Burke is so soulful and touching...

Had we really heard of any of these people before they hit it big on Grey's? Some were somewhat familiar, but nowhere near where they are now.
They just need to grow up, show up and shut up. They sound like a bunch of 15 year olds.
