We've speculated about this many times here at TV Squad, but now we have word from Ed himself, Tom Cavanagh, that season one of the show is coming to DVD.
In an interview with Collider.com, Cavanagh says:
"Yeah, I guess they're talking about it. Last I heard was they were close on season one. The stumbling block as it's like a lot of the time is the music rights. They were fortunate enough because of the clout they had as Letterman's producers to get a lot of great music as one-offs. Of course, when you put those on a DVD that becomes a whole different thing."
So, the speculation we had that it was the music holding up the DVDs is correct. Damn, I hope they get the original music. It would really be awful if they replaced the songs, especially in the first season of the show. I want to hear "Bohemian Like You" and "Someday, Someway" and "Baby Now That I've Found You" from the "World of Possibility" episode and not other songs because they could get the rights cheaper. And I don't want to hear generic music either. Ed is in my top 5 list of shows I want to see on DVD, so I hope this works out.

When will Love Monkey come out, or will it ever? I'd imagine securing the music rights on that would be even harder. Somehow my DVR didn't catch all the episodes that cable had picked up.

It's nice to know they're working on it. I hope they move quickly though - a world without $10 bets just isn't worth living, you know?
