Lets rewind back nearly four years ago when Simon Cowell was Jennifer Hudson's maker.
She endured a plethora of disparaging comments from the Idol judge, as he had the audacity to say on live TV that she looked a girl in turkey wrapping, when not dressed to his liking. Cowell often made vocal his feelings that she was way out of her league competing on Idol.
Obviously he was less concerned with her bona fide talents and more concerned with pandering to his American Idol audience. It's a funny thing about talent, if you've really got it, you will be able to persevere over all the BS the world throws at you. Even after landing her roll in Dreamgirls, this former Idol contestant could not catch a break from Cowell, and she was not afraid to show open disdain for the Idol judge.
Until last night...
...In this TV's Top 5! clip, Simon Cowell records a heart felt message for Jennifer Hudson as she walks the red carpet during last nights Academy Awards. If you can believe it, he looked completely sincere and even predicted her win before they announced the award.
It's good to know that Simon can be a bigger man. Especially when he has been doing aspiring musicians wrong for so long.
In another clip, we also see a moment Hollywood has been waiting for, and that is for Scorcese finally being recognized as an Academy Award winning director. As if we didn't know he was going to win, when Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola walked on the stage as presenters. Sheesh, can you make it more obvious? Until last night, Scorcese was like the Susan Lucci of Oscar award nominees.
It's always an American story to watch our underdogs win in a shining moment. Last night's Oscars were no exception.

No matter how well she does in movies or in a recording career, it doesn't change the fact that Simon was right when he judged her on AI. AI isn't ounly about singing talent. It's about the entire package to make a pop star that has a certain look to go along with the voice to sell top 20 songs.
Of course after so many weeks it is out of the judges hands and into the fans, but look at the winners the fans picked that the Judges didn't always like. How successful has Fantasia Barrino or Ruben Studdard. Time will tell with Taylor Hicks.
If it were only about singing talent, then there really wouldn't be an age range now would there?
Hudson should really have herself a nice tall glass of humility and enjoy her success. She may be talented, but she is no pop princess.

I think it was very "gentleman" like for Simon to admit he was wrong about Jennifer Hudson.
It takes a "BIG" person to admit when they're wrong-KUDOS to you Simon-for realizing you made a terribly wrong decision, then-but to "open" your eyes Now-is an acceptable apology enough-I would say. ; )

It's nice to see an unkown like Jennifer Hudson have her moment... however she still needs to thank American Idol for giving it to her.
Without American Idol she would not have had the opportunity to be in a movie and she would have never won the Oscar. She can dislike the people behind AI all she wants, but without them she wouldn't be where she is.

Can't speak for Ruben Studdard, but Fantasia did get the bio TV movie treatment in which she got to play herself, and is now about to appear on Broadway in 'The Color Purple', so I'd say she's doing well for herself.
It didn't take much for Simon to "predict" that Jennifer Hudson would win, considering it seemed to be her award even before the movie opened based on the buzz.
Among the acting awards, I'd say the only surprise was in Best Supporting Actor. I think Eddie Murphy's personal life sabotaged his chances, and that it could have been any of the other nominess to pull ahead. Perhaps sentiment and acknowledgement of his long career (with at least one Best Actor nomination in the past) capped it for Arkin.

Looks like she has moved up to Jiffy Pop wrapping.

SpielberG. Not Spielbert.
Actually, I'd say the Susan Lucci is Kevin O'Connell. That poor guy's been nominated 19 times and has no gold to show. He just doesn't get the press because he's a sound engineer. Oh well. Kevin - 20th times the charm!

Judging from her stumble around the English language yesterday, I'd say that it's still her. Education > being able to sing really, really loudly.

They could have made it more obvious by having Robert DeNiro present it to Scorcese.

Lets all be realistic here, The Oscars? is hit or miss on the talent meter. While I think Jennifer can sing, the jury is still out on the acting part. How hard could it have been to play a singer? seriously? to dig deep into her soul and find that inner "effie"? In an ensemble cast, that includes ehem, Beyonce and eddie murphy she HAD to have stood out.

Yes, Fantasia may be doing well for herself in those projects, but I was referring to the Idol aspect in record and concert sales.

You all forget - Simon didn't kick her off the show - WE did. He only gave his opinion, and then AI viewers voted her out...
So if you listened to Simon, then that's your problem!
Compared to Beyonce at the Oscars, Jennifer's singing was strained and mediocre.

I have to agree with Carl. If not for AI she wouldn't be where she is now. And I have said this before, Simon didn't send Jennifer home from Idol the american viewing public did with there phone calls. If she was gone because of Simon Taylor would never have won. Simon didn't like him from the start.

Wow..It is amazing how judgemental everyone is in this world today. Personally, I have always found that those who speak disparagingly about others are either jeolous or jeolous. I think that Jennifer Hudson has an amazing voice. You would have to be dead to not realize this, or maybe unable to appreciate different vocal styles.. people.. Hudson had to audition for her role in Dreamgirls. Some of you think it was handed to her just because he was on American Idol. I mean, if American Idol was the end all for all the contestants, where is Justin Guarini? I think that this society has become very comfortable with putting others down, be it because of the color of their skin, or their weight, or the clothes they wear, or, or, or... American Idol is first and foremost a SINGING contest. Does it help if you are a size 2 and are cute, of course. But, if we look at the music today, and I use the word "music" loosely, it is being compromised because it is more important to get the 'look' first and the talent second that we have mediocre music out there that's consuming the music thats played. Since when did the standards for good music sink so low?? Personally, I am relieved to see the likes of Jennifer Hudson bring back music and singing ability to the forefront of the music that is being produced. I don't care if she is fat, thin, ugly or none of it...when I LISTEN to music, I don't need an image for me to appreciate it.

For years people have been complaining about Simon, GIVE IT A REST, If you don like him dont keep watching the show. I LOVE SIMON, yes sometimes he can be a little harsh. Realize this the music business HARSH, far more harsh than Simon will ever be. If people can take it on a hour or 2 tv show they are never gonna make it in the music business. I also like Randy I just wish he would stop with the YO MAN, YO DOG!!! CHECK IT OUT!!!! GOOD LOOKIN' OUT!!! I am sure he can find something else to address these contestants.
