Apparently Jennifer Hudson hasn't been reading her own press. She seemed truly stunned tonight when her name was announced for Best Supporting Actress during the 79th Annual Academy Awards (even though she was the favorite!).When the former Idol contestant took the stage, she took a moment to take it all in and that moment seemed to make her tear up a bit. She thanked her grandmother, her large family, cast and crew of DreamGirls and God got a few shout-outs. The music nearly drowned out her quick 'thank you' to Jennifer Holliday, the actress who originated the role of Effie on Broadway. She did not thank anyone from American Idol.
I think she just one-upped Kelly Clarkson!

I think she had already covered that in her Barbara Walters interview by stating that she knows that she would have not gotten the role without the exposure afforded her by Idol.

I think that Jennifer Hudson wanted to do her acceptance speech a different way. She was so excited about winning that she had forgotten to mention American Idol. She did remember to acknowledge Jennifer Holliday.

NO WAY IN HELL would she have gotten that role without her "idol" background. Millions of ppl saw her on idol and if she thinks that didnt give her an edge she is in DENIAL!!
The producers would have much rather picked her than countless other talented hopefuls because they knew her exposure might help with ticket sales.
I'm not saying she doesnt deserve the oscar, but to deny that idol had nothing to do with her getting the role is ignorant!

Oh, I'm sure Kelly is quite happy with her two Grammy awards and two hugely successful albums.
But congrats to Jennifer Hudson. Down with Cowell!

One upped Kelly Clarkson? I wouldn't go that far. Jennifer Hudson still needs to prove she's got staying power in the musical aspect of her career. Though an Oscar is pretty damn sweet.
I just think the two are very different. I'm pretty sure Kelly Clarkson is content with her Grammys, AMAs, VMAs, People's Choice, and all those awards she won in all those other countries.
Two girls with great talent, but succeeding in two very different spectrum. Can't be compared.
Although I think Jennifer may have one upped Clarkson with her not thanking American Idol. Wonder if Simon Cowell will give her as much crap as he did Clarkson? Even if clarkson has spent so much time actually being grateful to Idol...shrug.

Why should she have thanked American Idol? Do other Oscar winners thank thier first break? "I would like to thank burger king for letting me have it my way"
She didnt Win AI, and on HER OWN TALENT and ambition got her Oscar.

I thought it was pretty tacky for her to mention/brag about her Golden Globe and SAG awards on the Oscar stage. And that "oh-by-the-way" shout out to Jennifer Holiday, whom Ms. Hudson has never even bothered to meet in person.

After Jennifer Holliday's "And I am Telling You" blow-up with Whitney Houston years ago, I am confident that such non-meetings are not Ms. Hudson's fault. Besides, you are assuming Ms. Hudson calls her own shots...she has handlers. Her decisions are not her own at this stage in her career. Ms. Holiday, however...
And I do not recall Jennifer Hudson mentioning any other awards during her acceptance speech, though, the announcer did mention that fact at the beginning of the telecast, so, such a comment would not have been out of line.

Ms. Hudson was working before AI. She don't owe AI anything. If anything, they need to have people to judge the show with a better judge of character. What would she be thanking them for anyway? Holding her back? Be for real, she is genuinely and without a doubt talented. She would have made it with or without AI.

First of all American Idol is full of it. They dont look for talent, Obviously they look for appearance. many have been turned away for the way they look. Who cares if they can sing? That's messed up. Jennifer Hudson is so Humble and really deserves everything that she has accomplished thus far and what's to come. I remember when she was on American Idol and got voted off she stated that even though she didn't win, she got what she really wanted, and that was for the world to hear her sing one time. Look at her now. "YOUR GIFT WILL MAKE ROOM FOR YOU"
I love Jennifer Hudson so much and would do anything to meet her one time - just to let her know how much she has inspired me.!
