Second installment of Lost flashback videos available

Evangeline Lilly as KateThe newest set of Lost character flashback videos has been posted on ABC's website. I was hoping that they would show the flashbacks of some of the other characters this week, but ABC continued with the stories of Jack, Kate, Locke, and Sawyer.

Jack's video featured his late night encounter with Desmond in an empty arena. I had forgotten that Desmond mentioned that he was "almost a doctor" in that scene. Perhaps this will be cleared up if Desmond ever gets a military flashback. Jack's subsequent healing of future wife Sarah was also shown.

The Sawyer flashback continued with Sawyer's history as a con man. The Cassidy storyline was introduced, in which Sawyer falls in love with his mark, but not enough to stop him from conning her out of $600,000. Viewers were reminded of a past Easter egg in which Kate's mother, Diane, appears in a restaurant with Sawyer.

Locke's video showed the early stages of how he was conned out of a kidney by his biological father. When coupled with Sawyer's flashback, in which he defines a long con, the theory that Cooper is the original Sawyer makes more sense. Cooper went to great pains to make the kidney transplant seem like Locke's idea.

Finally, Kate's flashback depicted her escape from marshal Edward Mars, courtesy of a mysterious horse (the horse would later show up on the island). Kate also visited her Dad at a military recruiting station, where she revealed her discovery that Wayne was her true biological father. Despite all the suspense surrounding the truth about Kate's crime, I actually prefer her back story in this new order. The pattern of behavior that she would later show as a fugitive is more interesting to me.

It looks like ABC is planning to finish off these four flashbacks before turning to the supporting characters, so we will have to wait a few weeks for the other back stories. All in all, the grouping of the videos has been giving each individual back story more meaning.
