I am getting Showtime. When I read that This American Life was coming to television, I was cautiously optimistic. Ira Glass and crew do such a terrific job telling stories with audio that I admit I was worried about video taking away some of the intimacy. After watching this trailer (it's also embedded after the jump) I was blown away. It looks as beautiful as This American Life sounds. Apparently the producers of the television show found photographers and editors who think the way This American Life is produced. Just like the radio broadcast, the camera shots are from unusual angles. It's pretty much the opposite of anything you'd see on MTV.
This American Life premieres on Showtime on March 22.

The video trailer has erased much of my skepticism about This American Life finding its way onto television. It was easy to picture it being crammed into the general "news magazine" format.
I think it's fantastic that Showtime is the network that will be carrying it, too... Ira is destined to tell and present stories without being interrupted by a loud commercial telling us there's yet ANOTHER way we can eat yogurt.
...ugh, I hate yogurt.
Anyway -- Showtime has been dead to me since cancelling the fantastic yet short-lived program "Dead Like Me." I think it may be time to give them a chance to redeem themselves.

Can't wait for this.
Anyone else get a "and now for something completely different" vibe out of Ira sitting at the desk?

It looks like the same old stories about uninteresting people, told in frustratingly disjointed ways, accompanied by irritating mood music and introduced by the annoying voice of Ira Glass.

Anybody know what music they're using in that TV trailer? It sounds really familiar, like I might have heard it as part of a film score or maybe even during a TAL show on the radio, but I can't quite place it. Anyone?
