(S01E08) Alright, this is starting to get a little ridiculous. Dirt is reaching the point where I think people are going to stop watching. This show is supposed needs to be about the gossip and the scandal that comes from Hollywood's elite. That's how this show had to have been pitched. An hour-long drama that takes a fictitious look at the world of tabloid journalism. Knowing that, explain to me how Lucy's daddy issues play into this series at all.
I think the problem probably stems from a desire to make this show bigger than it is. I don't think it needs to be that to be a success. It just needs to continue giving us the over-the-top stories that we've been getting all season. Dirt isn't a show that's going to win Emmys and Golden Globes. It is, however, meant to be an escape. So why not stick with what's simple?
Now as I mentioned, Lucy's past played a huge role in this episode. More than in any other episode where it was brought up. She went digging in her mom's closet, saw a hypnotist, and even developed insomnia. How does this tie into the big picture though? I'm not so sure I really care about her past. A little knowledge is good, but this is nearing the point of being encyclopedic. I just don't think it matters.
What we did get was a lot more focus on Willa. I'm starting to think she's not as stupid as I once thought. It's pretty clear now that she's only using Brent to further he own causes. It's just a matter of time before he realizes he's being played and that sex tape rears its ugly head. I really do like how Willa is being developed though. I think she's going to be a much more vicious person by the time the season ends. She's soft-spoken and apologetic now, but she's learning and she will harden.
As far as Julia and Holt go, that story is losing steam fast. They broke up, he apologized, they made up, blah blah blah. For this story to get really good, Julia needs to find out that Holt is the one who sold Kira's pregnancy story to Lucy. That's where it all began to unravel and if Julia figures that out (she has to... right?), then those two become interesting again.
Favorite part of the episode? The very end. As I predicted way back when I first reviewed this show, Lucy becoming the story was an inevitable plotline. It happened. Someone is trailing her and they aren't too shy to let her know. There are photographs to prove it. So the new question becomes one of revenge versus an actual story. Is someone trying to get back at Lucy or is there something juicy about her past waiting to be found out?

This is what makes her so fucked, that she doesn't care about what she's putting in the magazine. And know someone is taking pictures of her.
And the Willa story is just getting good. She about to turn or have a complete breakdown.

I don't think the whole Lucy story is a waste. Finding out why she is the way she is is important. I agree that it shouldn't be all about her but character development is good sometimes. As long as they don't get rid of Don, I'm okay. At first I didn't care for him but now I love him.

My favorite part from last night:
"I don't like dancing in the dark."
Brilliant and inside. :) This show has gotten a lot better since the first few. I'm definitely hooked.

The Lucy story is backstory and I would guess pretty significant to why she is the way she is. My thoughts at this early stage is that her father killed himself so he wouldn't sexually molest her.
Whether he had already done so is up for review. Although it probably would explain her inability to orgasm. Then again the dodgy business partner may also be a dodgy paedophile.
It was difficult to figure out what she was hallucinating during the episode and what was real.
My guess is that the interview with the reverend was a hallucination. The fact that the reverend 'knew' her father was really her subconscious telling her that the reverend knew what type of man her father was. The therapist was a hallucination which ties in well when Lucy makes the revelation that she hallucinates at night.
