(S03E14) I know a lot of readers get really ticked off when we reveal any sort of spoilers before the jump of the post, so I'll just start off with a big "WOW!" If you saw the episode, you certainly know what I'm talking about. I'm both saddened and thrilled at the end result of things ... but I'll talk more about that later.
I think what makes me more sad is the fact that, after next week, we have to wait until April for a new episode. Boo.
Lamb is dead. Did I say "wow" yet? That was one I totally did not see coming, though it's possible some spoiler site mentioned something about it today and I missed it -- I didn't go for my usual fix today. But then to top things off, Keith is made Sheriff! The repercussions of Lamb being so abruptly killed off leave room for a lot of possibilities.
Still, I'm sad to see Lamb go. Who will Keith and Veronica duel with now? There's always Vinnie, who seems to be making more appearances lately. I really do hope they make more use of him in the coming episodes, and now it makes more sense than ever before.
OK, enough about the Lamb thing. The writers are actually doing a good job of finally making us really not like Landry, which is paving the way for what's coming later in the case. Why would he be so easily "pissed off" at Keith for following up on what's clearly a suspicious set of circumstances? He just comes across as a real ass.
There was a nice shout out to season one with Lamb and Wallace, and I'm feeling really stupid right now for not getting the reference Wallace made about Dorothy. If I had my season one DVDs here (a friend is borrowing them) I would check back, but maybe one of you can enlighten us?
Finally the whole LoVe situation has moved along quickly though this episode, and Logan's clearly moving on to Parker. The scavenger hunt showed how good the two are together, so it's a no brainer that they'll wind up together. On that same note, it's great to see Mac again, even if it was for a short time ... with love interest, even!
Anyone else catch Logan's "splitting a bamboo" mention during the Kama Sutra scene?

The Lamb/Wallace exchange went something like...
Lamb: Don't I know you?
Wallace: You told me to go see the Wizard to get some courage
Lamb: Did you?
Wallace: Yeah the wizard said you were the only person in the whole world who was a true friend of Dorthy's.
According to a poster on a message board being a 'friend of Dorothy' means you're gay, but I've never heard that expression before so...*shrug*

I've heard it ("friend of dorothy") before (in Clueless actually). I'm not entirely sure but I've always figured it had something to do with Judy Garland's popularity in the gay community.

the only place i remember the friend of dorothy comment is from arrested development when tobias is the new top dog in prison and everyone has red shoes and says they are "friends of dorothy". its clearly a gay reference but im not sure where it started or its context on the show.
great episode. are you saying theres not another episode next week or after next weeks 'summation' it will be april until the final 5(6?).

Logan stopping the kama sutra position to say that's the "splitting a bamboo" was absolutely hilarious. I had to rewind my DVR just to hear it again. This is definitely the old Logan and I'm thrilled to have him back!!!

Judy Garland is a gay icon for some reason, that may have something to do with it. I also heard it in Clueless.
I'm also thinking they're setting up Vinnie to be the foil to Sheriff Mars. I'm guessing he's the one that bugged the prof's phone.

Wallace: Yeah the wizard said you were the only SHERRIF in the whole world who was a true friend of Dorthy's.
Hmm maybe he was calling him gay. It was funny the look on v's face when he said that. Oh and totally did not get the Spliting the bamboo thing.

Lamb shooting his mirror reflection a fitting last act I guess. Still he was a perfect foil for the Mars and that will be missed. The Logan/Veronica pairing has never felt right for either one of them.

Oh, the "Friend of Dorothy" comment was nothing but gay bashing. This show has just disintegrated. I only watched because a friend on the east coast emailed me that Lamb was dying. Now Rob Thomas will think he's brave when he's really a douche.

"I smelt bread"
I think those were Lamb's last words. Did I hear him correctly? What does it mean?

One more thing to add..
Yes, Rob Thomas must be the worlds biggest douche bag for having a fictional teenager use "gay" as an insult. That must be how he truly feels because he wrote it in a script(did he even write tonights episode?)
Because of his vast fictional works on this series we can further state that he condones statutory rape, murder, premartial sex, child molesting, gang activity and tying naked boys to flagpoles.
The insult came from a teenage fictional character. Its an insult many teenages use now a days.
Relax, breath and say it with me..
Fictional

The whole scavenger hunt seemed like a scene from "The O.C." Maybe it was a shout-out to the passing of the show, which takes place just up the coast from "Veronica Mars."
I can't imagine that they're going to keep Keith as the sheriff for too long. He's too independent, and anyway, he looks really dorky in the uniform.
I don't mind Logan moving on from Veronica to Parker, but it mostly just seems like a convenient way of not having to introduce any new students into the cast.

I am going to miss Lamb. He was a great foil. I do hope we will be seeing more of Vinnie Van Lowe. I love his character and I wish that Veronica Mars was more popular so we could get a spinoff with him and Cliff. Despite Ms. Mars' wit, they are the two funniest characters on the show.

Oh, and while it's nice to know that Veronica wasn't helping a killer go free when she didn't stop Josh from leaving the country, she did allow him to commit $5 million in insurance fraud. So that's kind of a moral gray area there.

Maybe Tim bugged Landry's phone?
I liked Lamb, and the actor always payed him well, but I really don't care that he's dead - in the sense that he is not as necessary to the show as Wallace, for instance, is in regards to my viewing.
I loved the call back to the pilot btw.
As for Wallace line being gay bashing ...*eyeroll* I'm so tired of the PC talk.
Logan & Parker? Meh. I prefer Logan and Veronica together but I'll give anyone that save a few moments the writing of their coupling has not done either any favors.
Ultimately I think that my biggest gripe is the misuse of Veronica's partnerships, save the one with Keith.
In season two Wallace disappeared (btw where in hell is his mother?) and now it's "blink and you'll miss him".
I'm not wording my point well here but what I liked in season one was the partnerships (Veronica/Wallace, Veronica/Weevil, Veronica/Logan, Veronica/Mac) and while those still occur I find them too rare so that room is made for characters I cannot give a shit about about like Parker or Piz.
Anyways....this episode at least had Veronica/Wallace and Veronica/Logan. When life gives you lemons....
Anyone else wonders if Madison will go to Lamb's funeral? Loved Veronica's tirade to Madison about the "law" last season.
That Madison, she really gets around doesn't she?

I think that Landry pretended that someone bugged his phone so that he could get the bug into Keith's office and listen to his progress on the case.
Best line last night:
(Mac's boyfriend) Is this what you meant by "crash"?
(Mac) Did I say "crash"? I meant "bang". I got my Onomatopoeia's mixed up.
Classic!

Re: "I smell bread." That's a quote from an old episode of M*A*S*H. A wounded soldier says it just before he dies.

The "I smell bread" comment was referring to the fact that Lamb was having a stroke. People say that when someone is having a stroke, they smell toast.

If I'm not mistaken "I smell bread" is a reference to a 1981 M*A*S*H episode, in which Major Winchester after a unnerving near death experience goes to a front line aid station to find out what an individual experiences at the moment of death. He questions a soldier who's beyond saving. "Do you see anything?" he pleads. "Can you feel anything?" The dying soldier replies simply, "I smell bread." It's a powerful episode. I have no doubt Rob Thomas had it in mind.

No, No, No, No;
You guys are getting Wallace's comment to the sheriff all wrong! In the very first episode, Wallace was working at a gas station and some PCHer's come into the gas station and try and steal some beer (i think), anyway, wallace calles Neptune's finest and Sheriff Lamb shows up and when Wallance is threated by the PCHer's, he changes his story that nothing is really happening, and Lamb tells him to go to the Wizard and get some courage.
