Sometimes no matter how simple or complex a given piece of "technology" is, there's always going to be the need for support folks to help figure the blasted things out. And you've always got yahoos claiming that the "old way" was much faster/better than the new. Along with being a member of the TV Squad team, by day I work as an IT Manager, so I know how true this is.A co-worker friend of mine sent along this clip that spells out the need for technical support all too well. From the link: "It's from a show called Øystein & Meg (Øystein & I) produced by the Norwegian Broadcasting television channel (NRK) in 2001. The spoken language is Norwegian, the [subtitles are] in Danish [and English]. It's written by Knut Nærum and performed by Øystein Bache and Rune Gokstad." I have to say, the help desk dude has the patience of a saint.

I myself am a technical rep for Microsoft.
My job = this video, on a loop, for eight hours, sadly without a hint of Norwegian.
I have had people literally like this, on the phone, that have no idea what a keyboard is, let alone what it does, and they just dropped a grand to have a computer for email.
This vid ain't far from the truth my friends, and sadly, it is my life...

Dude, if those people weren't there you were out of a job :-)
So don't complain.
By the way I only do support for people I know and sometimes I have to admit I start talking loud... *ashamed look* Others say I yell.
Because, you know, with some people it's like a lotus leaf. Nothing sticks.
So I guess the worst thing for you would be coming home and getting a call from a friend who has a "short question about his PC" after 8 hours of tech support :-)

Bash,
I think the most frightening phrase in the world is, "I have a quick question." which is I suppose the same thing as your "short question". It may be a quick question, but that absoultely certifies that the answer, subsequent explanation of the answer, secondary, tertiary, etc. questions and their accompanying answers will always take hours.
It's one of the many reasons listed in the book I'm working on called, "Why I Hate People With Faces".
