The Cartoon Network series Ben 10, about a young boy who uses a mysterious device called the Omnitrix to change into different super heroes, is being developed into both a full-length made-for-TV animated movie, and a live-action movie, also presumably for television.
None of the reports from the Cartoon Network upfronts have any details on who will star in the live-action movie, or even what the movie will be about. I myself have never seen the show, though since I tend to spend a lot of time on animation blogs I've heard some good things about it. The show just seemed to be geared towards a much younger crowd, even though I can and have enjoyed cartoons not necessarily intended for grown ups. Do any of you watch it or have kids who watch it? Does a live-action version make sense?

Whoa! Awesome news. I LOVE Ben 10. In fact (and this will bring out the nerd in me) I dressed as Ben 10 for Halloween this year, no lie. A live-action movie would rock. Kid gets alien watch that turns him into 10 different superhero aliens. Sign me up.

This is actually a very enjoyable show. It teaches lessons to the kids about responisbility while still being entertaining to watch. Personally, as an adult, it makes for a nice 20 minute (sans commercials) distraction from the rigors of the day.

The animated movie isn't surprising. What should be interesting to see is how they handle the live action movie. The amount of money they'd need to fork over to make it not suck would be astronomical for a TV movie. Consider CGI for a minimum of two of the (what is it now?) twelve aliens that he can turn into plus whatever he is fighting. That is a minimum of three character, though it will probably be more. Add in the special effects and this is going to get messy really fast. I'd think they'd need to make it into a box office thing to recoup the costs.

The show is great. However, a live action movie would suck. Not just because all live action adaptations to comics/games/cartoons suck, but also because it makes no sense to show a LIVE ACTION movie on CARTOON network. But this hasn't stopped them before.
