The Nielsen Company released some new findings yesterday which looked at the relationship between PVR viewing habits (e.g. commercial skipping) and how much time has passed since the program was recorded. In a nutshell, are people more likely to watch commercials if they view the show right away?Nielsen's answer to that question is a yes. In fact their words were "playback that occurs closest to the original telecast retains more of the audience during commercials than DVR playback that occurs further out."
Some other interesting facts that Nielsen released today include:
• Program genres such as sports and news have a higher than average playback occurring closer to the original broadcast
• PVR owners are younger, higher educated and earn a higher income when compared to the average U.S. household
• When it comes to primetime, 54% of us PVR owners watch TV with someone else, compared to the 50/50 split that comes with live programming.
Overall there are quite a few interesting stats in this study. My question is, who sits there all day and decides what to track?
