I'm neither liberal nor conservative: I belong to a small political party that believes every election should be decided by having the candidates wrestle a kangaroo, and that schools should teach neither creationism nor evolution, but rather a theory that states all of existence is resting on a giant Eggo waffle and that the end will come when we pop out of the toaster and are eaten by a family of pan-dimensional goats.
I ask you: where's my political comedy series?
In an apparent attempt to duplicate the success of the Daily Show, FOX News has created a show titled The Half Hour News Hour (previously mentioned here). A clip from the new series has been "leaked" online, and I've placed it below. Finally, conservatives have their satirical news program, and the liberals have their own, as well. Now everyone go to your separate rooms and don't let your mother and I hear any more bickering. One more peep and I'll give all y'all a taste of the back of my hand. Honestly, I don't spend all day handing out my Waffle Goat Theory pamphlets to people outside the Costco so I can come home listening to "Bush is a jerk!" and "No, Bush is awesome!" all night. Some of us have to get up early to train the kangaroo, you rotten kids.
Anyway, watch the clip and share your thoughts:

The "Things I hope to Accomplish One Day" line was funny, but I don't see this show sticking around for very long. Its not funny enough. The Daily is consistantly funny because it makes fun of some conservative ideas, but its main focus is on the absurdaty of news journalism. If this show focus only on making fun of liberals (because I know they are not going to attack how over the top cable news stations are) they are going to run into repetative jokes really soon.

What was most offensive? The laugh-track and clap-track. They could have just pulled in people from the stre... oh wait. Then they'd still have to add the laugh track...

My guess is it'll last about three episodes, if that. It wasn't the least bit funny.

Reminds me of Weekend Update on SNL, only less funny. If that's possible.

Sad, very very sad. I couldn't care less about Obama. But if it were even close to funny, I'd laugh. It's worse than Mad TV so par for the course, FOX. Also the canned laughs don't help anything.

wow - how brain-numbingly unfunny. the Daily Show is not a "liberal" news parody show; it's equal opportunity. anyone who's watched it knows this. trying to be funny only about one side of the political spectrum while pretending guys on "your" side aren't hypocritical or worthy of ridicule? that's just stupid.

Well,
The Daily Show clearly has a liberal bias, but I don't know if that means there's a market for a conservative comedy news show. Young people are predominately liberal, so I don't think that this show can take off. It would be nice to see it work, especially now that Jon Stewart will be low on material after the midterms, but I don't think the right has a comedic wit as good as Stewart. Hell, as a conservative myself, I wish we did.
In the off chance that this works, great. If it fails, well, we'll get some really good Daily Show material out of it.
Win-Win for the consumer.

Wow, those hosts are just plain awful. Maybe if they were a parody of themselves, but I think they were trying to be seriously funny. The Obama skit was like a bad SNL skit trying to be like the Daily Show. Sad.
As far as the Daily Show running low on material, ... What??!!! Do you watch the Daily Show? There are enough ridiculous people in the world to keep Daily Show filled with material for years, especially those new Democrats.

While I'm not going to deny that TDS is liberal leaning, I think all the "Bush = stupid" jokes they've made for the last few years have made everyone forget how many "Clinton + Blue Dress" jokes there were that preceded them.

Wow, I never thought I'd have MORE reasons to keep Fox News parent-blocked from my channel listings.
It's good to know that laugh-track button pushers have finally found a safe home.

I don't think that was as much of a Conservative version of the Daily Show as it was a somehow-even-worse version of Weekend Update. That wasn't funny at all, and using a laugh track these days is a little sad.
The Daily Show probably has a liberal bias, but I'm not sure that it doesn't just seem that way because Conservatives have been in power for so long, and it's a show that makes its stake on poking fun at 1) TV news journalism and 2) the status quo. Give us a Democratic president and, in a few years, we may be claiming a conservative bias for TDS, although I doubt it. Still, it's funny regardless. And this... well this was just absolute crap.

it had some mildly humorous lines, but all in all it won't be able to sustain itself as a watchable show. that being said, how was it "the most offensive and racist show" michael? a little bit of an axe to grind with foxnews maybe?

I don't think this was supposed to be blatantly racist, but I could easily see racists cheering along to it, thinking "Finally, Fox News understands me!"

Although not funny in the least, et cetera, et cetera. Where it's really different (ok, TDS also focuses heavily on pointing out the flaws in modern journalism as well) is the nature of the comedy. TDS typically will comment on something that's been done: i.e. someone says or does something stupid, they put up a clip, they mock it. This show, however, is more focused on an agenda and is actively making jabs at their targets. It's less of "this person is making an ass of himself and this should probably bother all of us since they're in a position of power" and more "we don't like you, here's a poorly written attempt to make you look stupid". Just like the rest of Fox News it only exists to serve an agenda.

it's racist because it associates Obama with Marion Berry, the disgraced former mayor of Washington who happens to be black, instead of any other politician with a history of cocaine use, such as President Bush. It's racist because of the "BO" joke against Obama. This is an old racist stereotype and it's disgusting to see it so shamelessly deployed by these media thugs.

I'm assuming the "racist" comment was because there were white, conservative people on the screen. Nuff said.
Being a white, conservative person I'm doubly disappointed at how little promise this clip shows. The first couple of one-liners were snicker-worthy but the minute-and-a-half lame magazine joke just to make fun of the guy's initials would have made me tune out if the clip were any longer.
