An executive producer for 24 told the Philadelphia Inquirer that the show will be scaling back its torture scenes, but not because human rights groups have objected to them. Instead, producer Howard Gordon said such scenes season have almost become cliche.
"What was once an extraordinary or exceptional moment is starting to feel a little trite," Gordon told the newspaper. "The idea of physical coercion or torture is no longer a novelty or surprise."

Coincidentally, this is kind of how I feel about many of the things House does lately. I just can't think of something he could do that would shock me.

All the outrage over this season's "torture scenes" is cracking me up. Like there isn't violence or gore on other mainstream tv shows? I think it was Bill Simmons on ESPN.com who jokingly questioned after seeing CSI and Criminal Minds ads if there were any hookers left alive in America. Also, if I'm right about where 24 is going this year, It's will turn out that these "torture scenes" were staged by Jack and his allies as part of a sting operation. What will the critics say then? That fake torture is unacceptable as well?

I think the torture this season just doesn't make much sense. They need a guy to reprogram their nuclear device, so they torture him by hitting him in the head, depriving his brain of oxygen, and drilling into his shoulder? And they aren't concerned that they might mess up his head or make it impossible for him to type? It would have made more sense to me if they drilled into his knees or chopped off a foot.
