It's called General Hospital: Night Shift, and it is, as the title indicates, a spinoff of General Hospital. The new series, set to premiere on SOAPnet this summer with thirteen episodes, will flesh out the stories from General Hospital and delve deeper into the characters and their lives. Really, it's more of an extension of a series than a bona fide spinoff, but whatever you call it, it's a clever idea. If ever a series had a built-in fanbase, it's this one. The new series will be written by General Hospital head writer Robert Guza, Jr., and executive produced by General Hospital executive producer Jill Farren Phelps.
This is just part of SOAPnet's plan to extend beyond daytime programming: the cable channel will also begin airing episodes of The OC and One Tree Hill starting April 9. SOAPnet recently acquired the rights to all seasons of both series.

Well it's nice to know they keep trying different things. I'm a big GH fan and I tried to like their first spin-off - Port Charles, but it just got too weird. I liked what they tried at the beginning, they'd try to overlap scenes. "Bob" walks away from talking to "Sally" on GH and the story follows "Sally", and then you see that again in Port Charles but the camera stays on "Bob" .. things like that. It'd be nice if they just kept the same characters though and didn't get all weird. Who knows. They're not doing very well with the blog idea as it is. They have a blog for a character (Dr. Robin Scorpio) and between the always cheery and positive comments (either fans are 'following the leader' or they're all completely made up - i vote the latter) and the fact that several times the character has blogged on a day when she was technically busy elsewhere for a long period of time. Pfft. If you're going to do it, do it right. (Like when "Noel Crane" of Felicity made his website - it looked like a REAL WEBSITE without any link whatsoever to the WB) Anyway. I gotta get SOAPnet now.. eesh. They'd be smart if they'd just put it on the web/iTunes/YouTube.

Why doesn't Guza and Phelps work on fixing the daytime version of General HOspital rather than trying to ruin another version of GH. Why would TPTB give those two idots another chance at nailing the final nail in the GH coffin !!! GET A CLUE !
