My Name Is Earl and The Office are still working at reaching those viewer numbers from the Must See TV of a few years ago. But what they lack in audience, they are making up for with cool. How else do you explain the ability of the two to draw such a collection of guest stars and guest directors?Joss Whedon is joining Harold Ramis and J. J. Abrams as a member of the Office directorial pool. Julia mentioned this last month, but now there is a video on YouTube where Joss talks about why he decided to work on the show. He also says that in doing something like this the director needs to be anonymous and that this will not be "The Joss Whedon episode." Looking at the clips that go along with the interview though, I don't think the writers got that message. It looks like the Joss Whedon episode. Video is after the jump and contains spoilers, just so you know.

I think you missed the joke. The whole point and joke of the clip is that Whedon is talking about removing himself yet there is practically a blinking VAMPIRE SLAYER DIRECTOR title under his name. Meanwhile, the whole episode is supposedly about a vampire bat in the office. The whole time Whedon is talking about removing himself as a director yet it's the complete opposite. The clip was very tongue in cheek and very funny.

They missed the parts where Pam turns gay, Dwight is transformed into a giant snake monster, and Jim gets a chip in his head that keeps him from playing pranks.

Derek,
I hope you're kidding. That's like saying you don't know who James Burrows is or Stephen J Cannell.

why is no one mentioning that the office writers won at the WGA last night. As did Steve Carell for writing the 'Casino Night' episode.
:)
Ugly Betty and Big Love also won last night. As did a Simpson episode.
c'mon tvsquad!

Shawn... it's guaranteed that TVS will pick up on WGAs... just wait about 2 or 3 days for someone to sift through someone else's blog post so they can post it and write about it here. Don't fret.

BGDC,
I wasn't kidding. I discovered he apparently created Buffy, which I've never watched. It hardly makes him a famous director. Don't know James Burrows either - can't be bothered googling him.
