If NBC even remotely considers this seriously...ugh.
Carson Daly has made it known that he wants to have his show slide into the 12:30am slot in 2009 (when Jay Leno's time is up and Conan O'Brien becomes host of The Tonight Show).
"The only thing I can do is say to the network, 'we want to be in the position where we are considered a 12:30 replacement when that happens'," Daly said. He added, "I would be presumptuous to have an opinion on [NBC not naming his O'Brien's successor]. I'm lucky I'm on the air."
Um, yeah Carson, you sorta are. Maybe it's the fact that you're interviewing skills are horrifying or maybe the fact your show always seems to be in repeats or how lame your monlogues are, but I wouldn't give you the 12:30 slot either.*
*Not that I like the idea of O'Brien taking over for Leno either. Leno is horrible and I'm glad he's going, but O'Brien is annoying in almost every way (how he tells jokes, his mugging during interviews). And even though Letterman was edgy and irreverent and ironic when he was at 12:30, his persona was a lot more mainstream and classic than O'Brien's, and you could picture him as host of Tonight or another 11:30 show. O'Brien...I just don't see it.

O'Brian will bring the younger ratings and that's all that really matter in TV, the 18-39 demo. I think O'Brian has his good days and his bad and as for Daly, I've never seen his show, so I can't comment on him.

When Letterman didn't get the 11:30 spot on NBC, one of the reasons was that he just assumed he would get it and didn't say anything, while Leno was constantly politicking with the network brass. Whether or not Carson Daly would be a good fit at 12:30, he's being smart to speak up about it now.
Personally, I don't care what happens with him, because I just TiVo Letterman, Kimmel and Ferguson every night, then fast-forward through them the next day to watch the funniest bits. It takes about half an hour.

Well he can't have it. I've never even seen his audience laugh. Go to the dictionary and look up toolbox, you'll see Ol' Carson there.

The show is terrible. He does "stand up" for about 5-10 minutes, no one laugh, they then have a guest on for about 5 minutes than some music and it's over. There is nothing to his show.
I think NBC should do a test run like they did on CBS for The Late Late Show, that worked great. I fear NBC will give him the job because they already let him host the New Year thing on NBC and that scares me.
But if he does get it what does that mean for The Tonight Show after O'Brien leaves?

Fast forwarding and watching the funny parts of Craig Ferguson should take all of 0 minutes. Letterman is the only fully watchable late night show and Conan can be good when he focuses and doesn't spend time responding to every noise the audience makes.

I think Conan is hilarious...probably because I have been watching him consistently for years and years. Sure, he's silly, but his interviews are almost funny, though not as sharp as Letterman.
Craig Ferguson is pretty funny too...I just wish he never aired besides Conan.

Ok, first of all Bob Sassone, you don't seem to like anybody on T.V. Get yourself up there if all the talk show hosts suck. Deal with it. As for Carson Daly, his show is terrible. I'd keep him on after 12:30 because he's lame. Sometimes he has good guests and bands but that's it. Conan O' Brien is the funniest talk show host today. He's way better than Leno, Kimmel, and Ferguson. Letterman is still ok.

Here's the bottom line: When Conan takes over The Tonight Show in 2009 he will be 46 years old. In contrast, Johnny Carson was just turning 37 when he became host of The Tonight Show in 1962 and Jay Leno was 42 when he took the reins in 1992. And neither Carson nor Leno had already been on the air for 17 years in their own talk shows when they got Tonight.
I'm a fan of Conan's but he and his audience will not be particularly "young" when he takes over the show in 2009. And it's unlikely that he will have as long a run as Carson (30 years) or even Leno (17 years). NBC will need to use the 12:30 slot to groom a successor -- a much younger successor -- to Conan almost immediately. My guess is that that person isn't Carson Daly (who'll be turning 36 in 2009), but it should be someone under the age of 30. That means someone born in 1980 or later.
Any nominees? It's fun to speculate!

Am I the only person who finds Letterman irritating? I mean, he's not nearly as bad as Leno, but the only things I ever find enjoyable (sometimes) is the top ten lists, which he doesn't even write himself.
Meh, personal choice I guess.
But you can't go wrong with Conan's Walker Texas Ranger lever. That bit has me cracking almost every time.

Conan will be great - but I hate to see him directly competing with Letterman. A lot of Letterman fans probably switch to Conan when Letterman's over (at least I do).
I think Carson Daly really sucks - but I've rather watch him than Ryan Seacrest.

The good news is that with Conan on an hour earlier and nothing worth watching after that, I'll be able to go to bed earlier.

The first 3 years, I liked Carson Daly on his late night show, but he's become a little stale as of late. His monologues are pointless--they're not even funny at all! And I don't think that Conan O'Brian will be as good as Leno or even Carson when he takes the Tonight Show spot in 2009. But NBC is so defensive about keeping its familiar late night show titles that doing something new is lifeless. The public moves on to something else, and I don't know if they'll react to these two late night hosts.
