It seems that security at Honolulu International Airport dropped the ball and mixed film canisters from ABC's Lost in with regular luggage. Then the whole mess went through the X-ray machine, destroying the footage and requiring the show to reshoot scenes. Apparently the warning labels urging security not to X-ray the canisters didn't get the job done. The state's film office and the airlines have worked together to prevent future mishaps. The loss was covered by insurance, and producers say that they are still on schedule, which is fortunate. There might be a revolt if they went back on that sixteen straight weeks promise after all the promotion it received. I'm hoping that instead of the costly reshoot, they blew the insurance check on booze and hookers and went with a crafty team of Korean animators to fill in the lost scenes. That's just nutty enough to work.

Crazy American Party!
But for real-real, how cool would an animated episode be? That'd be pretty kick-ass!

Thank you Brett.
I agree. An animated episode (or perhaps even a small segment) would be awesome.
OOOOOOOOH!
Make the fabled Vincent POV episode be all animated!

I could go for an animated episode/segment as well. Interestingly, former Lost writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach did just such a thing this year for the premiere of Medium. There, the animation was in the form of a dream, and it worked very well.

Huh? They're using FILM? And sending it undeveloped to Los Angeles? Wha?
I mean, an x-ray machine won't hurt film prints, and it won't destroy digital video tapes.
I'm surprised to learn that they are not using digital video for Lost; even more surprised to learn that they send the unprocessed film to LA for processing instead of doing it in Hawaii...

Isn't Lost filmed using 1080p digital cameras like most TV shows nowadays? I can see why some people would still prefer film, but it would just be easier to broadcast the show in hi-def if it was shot directly in digital.

Im right there with ya Mike. "Bear is driving" has stayed in my verbal lexicon for years. Too bad the joy of the Clerks show could not live on.

There is always a contingency plan that involves
using animation when the original scenes are blasted with high energy airport x-rays.
Now, we have proof! (see below)

Gene is right about the machines at the airport. They won't damage film. I wonder what the real problem was.
