Broadcasting & Cable reports that the premiere of The Sarah Silverman Program on Comedy Central last Thursday was highest ranking premiere in the last three years, drawing a 1.2 rating among viewers 18-49. Among men between the ages of 18 and 24, the program got a 3.3 rating. I'm shocked. Young men like watching an attractive woman make poo jokes, rag on cops, and get high on cough syrup.
I'll be curious to see whether the ratings hold up this week. The first episode was pretty funny, but the show had pretty two dimensional characters, a pretty weak plot, and I'm not sure if the cast was acting or just performing stand-up routines in front of one another. Then again, I think that was pretty much the point, and I definitely plan to watch again tonight. It's a nice change of pace from the typical sit-com formula wherein you're supposed to actually care about the characters and whether they'll eventually wind up sleeping together. Sometimes all I want is 22 minutes of escapist humor.

Uh, Sarah Silverman would be that attractive woman. Nice attempt at wit.
As for the show, it was just the pilot, and I though ti was pretty funny. Loved the cough syrup animation. And they may flesh the characters out more, but I wouldn't expect deep 3-d characters like you see in The Office or such. Wrong type of show for that.
And I didn't realize this counted as a "sitcom." Comedy show with a (loose) plot seems more fitting.

Sometimes there's no point in being overly critical.
Sarah Silverman has such a large appeal because she seems to 'get away with it' due to her prettiness & naiivety & the people who hate her do so for exactly the same reason.
She's very shrewd.

i find it funny that Zach Galifianakis had to actually tighten up his beard to play a homeless guy.

The first season was only 6 episodes. I'm not sure if it's been picked up for more yet.
