They really dig up the dirt quickly over at TMZcom, don't they? They've already posted the mugshots of two of last night's American Idol contestants.Akron Watson (aka Bruce Banner or Cousin #2) convinced Idol judges he was good enough to advance to the next round, but unfortunately never made it to Hollywood. According to TMZ, Watson was uninvited for "unknown reasons." It seems possible that producers disqualified Watson after discovering his 2003 arrest for marijuana possession.
TMZ also reports that Ashlyn Carr (described by Simon as an "old-school Dionne Warwick') was arrested in August for pouring sugar into the gas tank of her ex-boyfriend's car. As far as I know, this "dangerous criminal mastermind" is still expected to participate in Idol's Hollywood round.

Did anyone think Simon would let even an arrest record get in the way of a pretty girl going to Hollywood?

BigTed - FYI, if you tell American Idol up front about your criminal problems, they sometimes let it go. It's when contestants keep it from them that they get kicked off the show. Also, Simon is a judge, not a producer, so he really doesn't have a say in this.

It's pretty crazy that they'll kick someone off for a misdemeanor pot possession but ALLOW THE IDOL FINALISTS TO CARRY POT AROUND WITH THEM DURING THE IDOL SUMMER TOUR (Constantine Maroulis I am looking at YOU).

With the arrest records, we should start weeding through (No pun intended) contestants pretty fast...Soon enough, there will not be anyone left to audition. Also, for #2, Simon IS a producer - his company is 19 entertainment (Co-production with Fremantle Media that also produces Simon's UK show "X factor).

If Mythbusters has taught us anything it's to use bleach in the gas tank not sugar.

I believe that is Simon Fuller, not Simon Cowell.

It's all about protecting their brand and franchise. And Idol's people don't want anyone with lengthy criminal records parading their stage. Those two people should have thought about that before they signed the dotted line to enter this national talent search. Shielding or blocking your criminal record isn't going to help. I hope these two find another way to get into the music business because they can sing good.
