America - always threatened by the black man's sexuality. The debate hasn't gone there yet, but just you wait. An AP story was released yesterday that strings together multiple reports of viewers who were shocked, shocked to see Prince's "demonic guitar phallus," as it was described by Stephen Colbert, projected in shadow against a large sheet of fabric during the Super Bowl halftime show. These same viewers also giggle at the word "dooty," think a man using a microphone resembles an act of fellatio and that, from the air, Dolphin Stadium looks like a vagina. Folks, you can't rock out without your cock out so get over it already. You're just lucky this was Prince circa 2007 and not Prince circa 1984 when the guitar he took on tour would ejaculate water at the climax of "Let's Go Crazy." He kept his ass covered. What more do you want?

I think these people have filthy minds. They'd have found something to scream about no matter who played halftime. They need to turn off their televisions and go get a life.
Btw, I think Prince was fabulous and frankly if he found a way to annoy the prudes without really violating FCC standards, good for him.

Prince's shadow behind the sheet routine was totally out of place in a potential family program where small children might be watching. What's the difference from what happened with Ms Jackson????

Yes but who would seriously sit down and pause and go frame by frame to find this picture?? only someone LOOKING for something to complain about, the sheet was moving too much for a small child to figure out what this MAY have looked like at SOME points during his performance, he didn't stand like that the whole time

Well, Prince is a little creepy/weird - the guy must be near 50 by now...The trend appears to be old folks that you have been in the music biz for at least 20 years, so they can perform a "music medley" at the half-time show.

The halftime show was awesome. As previously stated some find fault with everyone but themselves. This was entertainment and nothing happened that does not happen at any other entertainment venue. Prince was awesome and tasteful. Those who did not enjoy should have turned to another station, did they???? No, instead they are always trying to make it bad for someone else. Those are the real satans.

PRINCE YOU WERE AMAZING!!! I agree with khia213 people need to get a life. What is wrong with you people? If you didn't enjoy the show you were free to turn your head or channel but no you watched and now you criticize. Find something more worthy of your criticism, like the War, the state of our country or the president!!! Something more life altering other than Prince and his entertaining performance during the Superbowl.

If you can't tell the difference between a bare breast and an implied sexual metaphor, then you need to back away from the tv, cause it's not for you. And if your children (under 10) can identify that as a sexual reference, you've got bigger issues in your house than Prince.

My husband and I had the sex talk with our 11 year-old son last year. We all watched the half-time show and my son never said a word about seeing any crude jestures. He liked the performance and thought the guitar solo was in his own words "awesome"! Our son is very musicaly inclined and was interested in the music as were we. We never realized there was a problem with the performance until the next morning when everyone was crying "Scandal".

Guitars are phallic. What's next? Banning all guitar performances on network TV?
I'm not a huge Prince fan, but I thought the halftime show was excellent. The best I can ever remember, in fact.

Did we all watch the same Super Bowl half time show? I thought Prince sucked and this coming from someone who used to have Prince posters up in her room as a teen. He sounded dreadful and the phallic guitar scene was very offensive, especially since I had kids watching. Honestly, why does everyone feel as though we can't have a show on TV today without sex and that it's ok? And I'm not being a prude for those of you who are going to respond with that comment. I just think it's absolutely unnecessary and not at all funny. Grow up for damn sake!

People Please, PRINCE WAS AUSOME...as usual!! You are forgetting the fact that the man and his band were out performing in the rain for all america. He wasn't dressed provocative nor were any of his girls. I had several children including a teenage daughter and none of them even thought of anything nasty. I agree with some of the others...people will complain about anything but, this is America and we do have freedom of speech. I don't think it's worth making a big fuss over or writing to your congressman about!

It begs the question of how much Tv can one take.
I seriously didn't know when the actual gamer tsarted so I switched on the TV and had it on in the background. It was an age b4 I realised the pregame show was going to last like 5 hours or so... I made an Exec decision. I turned OFF the TV.
Back for the start I watched the exciting first half. Mand at half time I had to take a bre3ak from the couch and walk around, get on the internet and listen to the music. OccasionallY I looked and totally admired the professionalism of Prince and the othes for putting up such a good show in the terrible weather conditions.
So my question is: All these people seeing stuff. Do their eyes never leave the TV screen. Surely they and their kids need to take a break for the "evil" TV for a while and rest their eyes? Or are these people devoted to finding stuff normal viewers pass over?

Everyone I was with noticed it too. It was blaring. I dont know if it's as bad as Janet's thing, but it didnt look kosher, thats forsure. I dont think it's worth a big stink, but I can't imagine someone didn't see this during a rehearsal and go "Hmm ya know ... maybe that position is a bit too much"

First - people have seen a phallus in the guitar for as long as well cocks have been around. If you didn't catch it, fine. Everybody at our super bowl party mentioned it instantly.
Second - how does an implied phallus hurt anyone? The guitar's already wielded like a giant cock, so now you've got a silhouette of it, so what. The imagery is still there - now it's just bigger.
Not sure where the controversy is. The man played the guitar and stood in front of a light. He didn't break any laws. Ya'll need to calm down and get a hold of yourselves. No, not there! Unless you're alone or with a loved one, then it's fine.
