Apparently, back in the day, Tim Gunn expressed disappointment that season one Project Runway winner Jay McCarroll hadn't debuted a collection by the age of 29. Well, Jay would like you to know that he's "not bitter" about that comment, but it was "hurtful." In the February 4th issue of New York Magazine, McCarroll goes on at length about Tim Gunn, and it's not pretty, Runway fans. (If you're offended by profanity, you may want to close your eyes for this next part.)"I just hate that because middle America looks at him like, 'He's so nice, he's like a father to them.' On [Project Runway] he was, sure ... At one point he said I was an embarrassment because I didn't show yet. And it's like, f**kin'-A, man ... I don't think [Gunn is] an authority on any designer's life. He went to school for sculpture or something. I don't think he's ever, to my knowledge, started a fashion line and therefore should not be the adviser or the f**kin' creative director." Oops ... too late. Liz Claiborne just made him their creative director. They hadn't gotten the memo from Jay yet, I guess.
For his part, Tim says that he's "regretfully" not in touch with McCarroll. "I'd like to be, but only if he's willing to talk." Damn it, gentlemen. I like you both. Please don't make us choose sides. Jay's got a new line debuting at Urban Outfitters next month. Tim's got the new Claiborne gig and Bravo show. There's no need for things to get ugly. If you need to hate on someone, hate on Kors.

Well, I, for one, still think that Kara Saun should have won Season 1, and Jay, since the show, has always seemed so bitter about his experience, no matter what his protestations are to the contrary. As a huge Tim Gunn fan, I hope he dismisses Jay's comments with a zinger so pithy, it would go over Jay's fat head.

Well, Jay has a point - as much love for "Timmy G", he has never launched his own line and has no idea of how tough it is...I am disappointed that Timmy does not speak from experience.

I agree Kara Saun should have won and I just about fell out of my chair when Jay won as for Tim he is right on. I do not think Jay will bother him one bit, but as you know no one is ever really satified weather they win or lose they always have something to grip about.

Well, Jay McCarroll I have been a bit disappointed that you haven't shown a line yet either. You see, I've been waiting and waiting for you to get it together and feel confident about showing a new and fully developed Jay McCarroll line because I think you are truly a major talent. Major Talent!
So cool to know that your line will be available for purchase at Urban Outfitters!! I'm there! I will finally own a Jay McCarroll!
Cheers Jay! And, because I'm selfish and love your designs, I wish you a long and successful career in fashion.

Jay was the rightful winner, I am only sad that Wendy made it to Fashion Week instead of Austin. Kara made a dress a celeb model couldnt even walk in!
I love Jay, and I love Tim, but right now Jay hasn't shown me a line of clothing, and I see Tim every season.... so you tell me who has maintained their staying power with the spotlight. I am rooting for Jay though, I would love to own something by him

I'm not sure what Jay is complaining about. Every time I see him on Bravo, he's always got a problem with something. He's never happy about anything. Maybe he should just create a line of earmuffs - I mean that was his signature during his "show", wasn't it? Is he still bitter because Heidi decided not to use him to design a dress for her at the last minute? Buckup! It happens in the industry! Jay needs to grow up.

Well, Jay, as much as I'm a fan, as far as relevant experience is concerned, one doesn't have to be dead to write an obituary column. I wish you the best.

Kara Saun was everything she claimed Wendi Pepper to be. I think if Wendi had shown up with hand-made shoes that she only paid a few dollars for, Kara Saun would have had a hissy fit. I think she also sabatoged one of Jay's outfits.

Hey, Jay was the winner on Project Runway because he is a generator of original ideas. Kara Saun is an excellent designer but her work was too much of a spin-off of the works done in the past (Hell-o Laura?)
As far as Heidi goes, the fact she dished Jay's remarkably gorgous dress for her post pregnancy wall paper dress really deflated my impression of her integrity. It was a nasty way to treat Jay. However, If he had more political savy he wouldn't bad mouth Tim Gunn, fashion is sculpture and Tim's taste cannot be beat. Huge Jay Fan, Major Tim fan and always and forever a "Project Runway" Devotee!!!!!!

I just met Tim Gunn at the Cynthia Rowley show for Fashion Week and he was such a gentleman! He definitely is as nice in person as he appears on the show.

I don't understand Jay being so upset! (I love Jay AND Tim by the way!)I took it as Tim was looking forward to Jay's collection and couldn't wait...expecting big things from him. Not as
"Jay's a loser". Is there more to Tim's comments
i don't know?? And so what if he hasn't got his
own line...do editors of fashion magazines have
to be designers to get their jobs? no! I think
Tim knows all too well what is involved. He
always looks SO distressed when the designers
are running behind or making something hideous.

Jay needs to change his name to "May Some Day". Winning is a silver platter opportunity. He might have won, but in real life, you have to produce.

When a wrong has been committed, no good comes from
it! Kara Saun was the rightful winner but Bravo
had a problem selecting her as a winner. Of course,
Jay failed--he was an also-ran elevated to a victory
he didn't deserve!

Why does everyone keep saying that Kara Saun should have won season one? In my opinion, she should have been disqualified for trying to sneak in those custom made shoes which clearly, if she had declared their real value, whould have put her way over her assigned budget. Jay's nothing but a baby and doesn't have anything good to say about anyone! I'm not saying Wendy was perfect, but I feel she was dealt the short end of the deal from the beginning!!

Jay, rather than publicly berate Tim Gunn, perhaps you could just enjoy your success? Middle America, myself included, might like to see you stop complaining and acting like a Diva. Maybe if you practice the arts of diplomacy and humility, you'll grow, both as an artist and a man. I wish you the best in the future and hope that the masses embrace your contributions to the world of fashion. I believe that Tim Gunn has already achieved this status with the television viewing public, as has Miss Klum. So I say, SEW ON! Cheers!!
