(S05E14) Well this was unexpected. I think CBS actually did a good job about keeping this episode under wraps.
Wrong.
That statement would have been true had it not been for the multitude of previews that have been shown for this episode. And what did every single one of them show? Delko, lying motionless in a parking lot. Becuase of that, I think myself (along with the rest of America who watched the Super Bowl and caught one of those previews), knew who was going to bite the dust.
Don't get me wrong. I'm all about shaking up the cast and it makes sense that it would occur during February sweeps... but c'mon. Try and surprise me a little?
A more logical idea, in terms of the previews, would have been making it seem as though Alexx was the team member who went down. She was in that explosion in the court house after all. I would have bought that too. They could replace her as Medical Examiner on this show and it wouldn't make all that much of a difference. Plus, when Delko got shot at the end, it would have definitely caught me off guard.
So following in the footsteps of Speedle, who got shot in the opening scenes of the season three premiere, Delko becomes the second member of Horatio's team to get fatally shot in the line of duty. For those that are holding on to the hope that maybe Eric will pull through, all I have to say is that I hope you didn't catch the preview for next week's conclusion. Once again, I won't have the element of surprise on my side.
So now this brings up the question of who fills the gap. I suppose the logical choice would be to give Boa Vista a bigger role. Or I suppose they could just bring on someone new. That is, after all, what happened when Speedle died and Wolfe was a patrolman ready and willing to join the team. My personal hope? I'd love to see Cooper from the media lab get a promotion. He's been out in the field a few times this season and I think he'd fill out the role well.
The only question I had, and wasn't able to find anything about it, was regarding why Delko was killed off. Did Adam Rodriguez just want out or was this just a decision handed down from the writers and producers? I searched all over and couldn't find a straightforward answer.
Other than Delko, there isn't much else to talk about. It was great that they brought back Clavo Cruz. Other than Walter Resden, Clavo (he's been in three other episodes) is the only other person you could consider to be the arch-nemesis of Horatio. I kind of like him though. For a cold-blooded killer, he's awfully jovial. Always has a smile, but I think we can assume that H will be wiping it off his face next week. I should just watch the preview again. I'm sure it will tell me everything I need to know.

Hey,
I think that the reason that you couldn't find anything about Adam Rodriguez leaving the show is because he probably isn't. See this video interview http://www.showbuzz.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/02/05/tv/main2431611.shtml Caruso could be misleading us.. who knows? But- I don't think that anything is definitive.

I thought they did a good job with the surprise ending. When Delko was shot in the leg, I figured that meant the tease in the commercial was just a ruse, then when he was actually killed, it took me completely by surprise.

Damn. Delko was a character I liked, but as long as it wasn't Calleigh I guess it's not too bad. Maybe now Emily Procter can get more screen time, eh?
Should've been Boa Vista...

I have to say-- when I saw Delko shot in the leg I was like "Well, that's really crappy if he bleds out and dies from being shot in the leg." I didn't expect the shot in the neck. Even if he does survive, he'd be paralyzed. In the real world, anyway.
Is it just me, or does it seem a little unnecesarry to kill Delko?

Remember, David Caruso is an actor. It seems rather odd that he would give away the ending on the CBS Morning Show. Although there certainly was a lot of blood associated with the shot to Delko's head, in reality, any head wound will bleed profusely given the number of blood vessels in the area. A graze to the head by the bullet would still have caused loss of a large amount of blood. Who knows what's going to happen!! If Rodriguez is off to greener pastures, then CBS should be congratulated for keeping it tightly under wraps.

In the preview for Part 2, they only talk about Delko as being "critical"... and Caruso states quite clearly on the CBS interview that it takes the full two hours to get him back to health. So panic over...

who says Delko's dead? Because someone that Horatio is awfully concerned about is being operated on in the teaser for next week's episode and it didn't look like Calliegh.

They clearly showed Delko flat-line in the preview during his surgery in next week's episode. Despite anything that says otherwise, I think it's meant to throw us off.

I hate to burst your bubble, but in all of the summaries for this episode it clearly states "injuring one CSI and the fatality of another CSI." I assume that Alex was the injured CSI so I would conclude by the wording that Delko dies. I mean fatal means dead, right. Also, to answer the question as to why they would kill him off, I read last week that Adam was moving to Toronto.
Sorry to be the barer of bad news.

Since I didn't see any previews, I was surprised. But the previews for next week make it clear he isn't dead yet. In the past year or so, "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" (Brass) and "CSI: NY" (Flack) have each had a character get seriously shot up, then survive after a lengthy hospital stay. This year it may be Delko's turn. Although you certainly couldn't blame Rodriguez if he wanted to escape this hamfest.

First, let me say this-I wish Delko would die. The PR Cuban Zoolander needs to go!!! I mean really-his character is an idiot and Adam rodriguez cannot act. Adam himself has said he is making it thru this. He has informed his fanclub(verbally-recorded message) that he is not dying and he is still on the show-Damn!!! This is all to boost more ratings for the show by making you "think" he is not going to make it. I really wish he was off and Speedle was back on!! This episode was bad and jsut a ratings getter-predictable.

I ahte to burst your bubble Sandie-but Delko does not die. Mica is correct-Adam has assured his fans on his fansite that he is NOT going to die. I for one am with Mica-i think the show would be better off without him. His acting is bad and I would love to see Cooper get his spot. The show is stale with Delko on there along with his acting. New guy blood is definitly needed-without the token latino on there. Keep Emily Proctor-seems she is the one that can actually act on the show.

Maybe it's the Pam Ewing/dream thing all over again.
Didn't they blow up Hunter in a car crash and bring him back the next season like nothing had happened?
Let's face it. H and Delco were plenty dumb in that parking lot. They should have been expecting an ambush, and more than one ambusher(???)
Maybe CBS will just kill off everybody except Wolfe or Tripp and call the show "The Lone CSI"
Then again, maybe not...

I hope that Adam Rodriguez is not leaving the show. I like his character on the show. As the only Hispanic actor in the CSI trilogy why kill him off. Is bad enough that they are not that many Hispanics actors male or female starring on primetime shows.

Die Delko Die!!!! He needs to go. His character is pathetic and dry. Give someone else a chance. Get rid of him and give Cooper a bigger part.

If Delko dies, I will be happy. Adam Rodriguez gives latinos a bad name. Especially how he talks trash about the other CSI (Vegas). That's the show that gave Miami it's start. He has gotten way to full of himself so I hope they do kill him off and bring a true actor to step up to the plate.
