American Idol's oh-so-brutally-honest judge Simon Cowell wasn't always quite so brutally honest. In fact, back in the 1980s, Simon was so intimidated by mega-star Eddie Murphy, that he didn't have the nerve to tell him that the songs he had written were complete and utter crap.

Simon recalls how he went to Eddie's home, expecting it to be "just the two of us and one hi-fi." Instead, he found himself in "a recording studio with about 20 nodders; a nodder is someone who gets paid to agree with the person paying him."

Simon hated Eddie's songs, but didn't know what to say. Today, Simon says it would be easier for him to tell Murphy the truth.

Eddie Murphy does such an incredible job singing and acting in this year's highly-acclaimed musical, Dreamgirls, that it almost makes you forget his short-lived and truly awful singing career. Those of us who were teens in the 1980s unfortunately will never forget the sounds of Murphy's Party All the Time, with its simplistic hook burned into our collective memories. Luckily, all you kiddies can view the music video for yourself here on YouTube. Just a warning: It was later voted one of the "50 Worst Songs of All-Time" by VH1 and Blender magazine for a reason.

The funny thing about the music video is that it shows the EXACT scene that Simon Cowell described. Eddie sings his horrendous song in a music studio while a group of "nodders" ridiculously nod their undying approval. And the nodders aren't just faceless, anonymous idiots. Rick James produced the dud and bravely makes an appearance in the video.
