(S04E13) One down and four to go. It's starting to feel like the end too, isn't it? Everyone seems to be finding their place. Sort of.
First off... Frank. I don't think I like him as much as I did the first time around. The whole idea of Ryan's father suddenly being in the picture feels a little forced. It was really the one unresolved thing left in his life and for that reason I suppose it makes sense that he's here now. It's just awkward and I can't quite put my finger on why. Maybe because he's been around for about 8 seconds and he's in love with Julie? Or because it's Kevin Sorbo?
I suppose it doesn't matter because the one thing you have to remember is what the show is about.
It's all about Ryan and I think the show is moving back in that direction. Everyone else, while important, are just there to supplement Ryan's journey. He's going to end up with Taylor, but you have to wonder. If Mischa Barton hadn't wanted off the show, would he still be with Marissa? I'm thinking yes.
I know a lot of people have been bothered by Seth and Summer's lack of chemistry this season, but I really like how they developed their story in this episode. All the parallels to Sandy and Kirsten were very well done. Summer's job offer with this environmental agency is an interesting twist though. If she's going all over the country, then her and Seth will definitely be taking some time off. But c'mon, we know they're going to end up together by the end of series. So this really just seems like a pointless obstacle to create a little drama in the meantime.
The Jimmy Cooper flashbacks Kirsten was having were interesting, as she played out her life in her head. I wonder if he'll be back again? He was in the Chrismukkah episode in Ryan's dream if you recall. His return could be an interesting story if done right. He hasn't been back since Marissa died and with Julie in love with Frank... well I don't know. Maybe there isn't anything there for Jimmy.
Back to the whole Frank ordeal. The little war between Kaitlin and Taylor was funny. The limo switcheroo was great and had me thinking of something out of The Three Stooges where everyone runs around with hammers while circus music plays in the background. I'm going to miss Bullit though. He was one of the more colorful characters we've seen on this show. (Bang!)
As I said though, I'm not digging the Frank angle. Anyone else find it weird to think that Julie could be Ryan's stepmother? What would her name be now? Julie Cooper Nicol Atwood? Wait, am I forgetting a name? There should be a Roberts wedged somewhere in there too. Man... Julie gets around. Let's see who else she can marry in the final three episodes.

I can't believe how screwed up it is that Julie ended up with Frank. The guy is a dirtbag, based on his jail time, family abandoning, fake cancer, etc. And Bullit has been portrayed as the niceguy the whole time - not to mention a great character. Are we supposed to like Frank now, and forget about all those bad things he did? Or is this supposed to somehow bring out a good side in Julie (going for love over money)? If that's the case they should have set her up with someone who is a little less of a scumbag.
The plotlines have been pretty bad lately - it's like the writers stopped trying halfway through this season. I'm almost happy there are only 3 eps left - I'm not sure if could make it through another season...

complain if you want... but i am totally loving these last episodes. i haven't enjoyed this show this much since season one (except for the season two Chrismukkuh episode which might be my favorite episode ever). it's like they're just having fun cuz they know it's coming to an end and i love it. i'm really sad to see it go. i can't believe they're cancelling this show.

I don't see what the fuss is over Frank and Julie. He's a abusive father and spouse, cheat, liar and ex-con. And Julie? Over the life of the show, she has been portrayed as a cheat, liar, gold-digger and has almost ruined her best friend Kiki's life not once, but twice! As Frank said, "We're from the same world". No kidding! Julie and Frank were made for each other.

this was an eh episode for me. i loved the start and these last few episodes havent been that great. i liked the 'team bulit' shirt (i actually really like caitlin). the flashbacks were cool if not expected ( i called abortion in like 2 seconds) and young kirsten was hot. who was sandy? i've seen him in something recently and couldn't place him.
i hope this ends up being interesting and not just dissapointing.

Wow I watched a little bit of it and Julie is a whore. This show is so bad, I still can't belive how much they wrecked it.
And did they even have time to write a finale? The show was just like "you're done".

Actually Frank was arrested for armed robbery, but no one ever said he was abusive to his family. Dawn's (Ryans Mom) boyfriends were the men that were abusive to her and her sons.
That said, I just adore this show and I can't believe it's ending in 3 episodes. What will I do without my Ben McKenzie fix on a weekly basis. He needs another show and quick, for my sake.
Peter Liquori is an idiot! And I'll never watch Fox again once the show ends, ever.

Wow I haven't been keeping up lately with what's going on and wow what a shock with Julie Cooper hooking up with Ryan's dad. She is definitely something else but adds a lot of drama to the show. My favorite seasons were 1 and 2 so that's why I haven't been keeping up. If anyone is interested there is a sweepstakes where you can win Seasons 1-3 of The OC on dvd at http://us.cyworld.com You can also enter to win a new laptop and a vip tour of warner bros studio. Is it just me or is the character of Ryan just not interesting anymore? Seth also seems a bit slow these days.
