Are you wearing a gorilla suit? if so, why not? Did someone forget to tell you that today is National Gorilla Suit Day? Didn't you notice the banks were closed and no mail was delivered? You would think in this day and age when information can travel instantly we'd all be on the same page about this.
Anyway, National Gorilla Suit Day stems from the late Mad Magazine artist Don Martin, known for his bulbous-nosed characters and wacky sound effects. In the Mad paperback Don Martin Bounces Back!, Martin illustrated a story about a man who wants to ban National Gorilla Suit Day and consequently ends up beaten up by gorillas and abominable snowmen.
To honor this special day, enjoy this clip from The Ernie Kovacs Show featuring the Nairobi Trio. Kovacs is one of my favorite old-time comedians. If I had been alive when his show was on, I would have watched it. Kovacs was one of the first comedians to play around with the television medium to create gags that couldn't be done on a live stage. Clip is after the jump.

For some reason I thought this was TVSquad not "Write-about-whatever-the-hell-you-want"Squad. The lame video does not make it relevant here.

J Sim, you're just proof of existence of the War on National Gorilla Suit Day. Don't try to deny it. You and your kind think we just have to stick with the generic "Happy Holidays" because acknowledging National Gorilla Suit Day would be demeaning to the people who don't believe in Gorilla Suits. Stop trying to shove your secular crap down our throats! I don't care if you're the kind of person who celebrates Groundhog Day or Valentine's Day this holiday season, we beleivers will wish a Happy National Gorilla Suit Day to anyone we wish. If you don't like it, that's fine, but stop trying to censor us.
So may I be the first to wish a Very, Very, Very Happy National Gorilla Suit Day to you and all your loved ones.
(By the way, the living embodiment of the spirit of National Gorilla Suit day is writer Mark Evanier, who spearheads NGSD efforts from his website, http://www.newsfromme.com.)
