(S01E05) I still don't know Jack. Why? Because Dawson was barely in the episode. He's gay, we knew that, and now Lucy is going to put it in print. It was how the story developed that I liked. It was completely not what I expected.
From the moment we found out that Jack played for the other team, you knew it was going to become one of Lucy's cover stories. But I just expected it to be a situation when she was hitting a dry spell and needed a quick headline. I never saw it coming when we found out that Jack, America's premiere action hero, was a bit of a man-whore.
On top of that, It surprised me when Leo advocated the release of the story. Sure, he was hurt, but he also doesn't seem like the type of guy who'd be ready for the scrutiny of the public eye. But as Lucy said, they'll just "Photoshop the hell" out of Leo's face. My point is that, once again, this show has me impressed. It's not always what you expect.
The best part of the episode was, by far, Wayne Brady. Fresh off his guest-role on How I Met Your Mother as Barney's gay half-brother, he plays a thug here. A scary-as-hell thug. Brought back memories of his altered self from Chappelle's Show. He could have yelled out, "Is Wayne Brady gonna have to choke a bitch" and it would have fit perfectly here. I wouldn't have flinched. He's a talented actor though, lots of versatility.
Don's story still bugs me but I feel like I've complained about that enough in the past. What I loved here was Willa's story. She's almost become Lucy's validation for being in the business. Just when Lucy doubts herself, she sees Willa pouring her heart out to get a story and Lucy derives a satisfaction from that.
Other things I liked:
-
I'm glad things are progressing with Holt and Lucy. It makes sense and Julia's drug addiction is getting annoying.
-
Speaking of that, Garbo freaks me out. Does she ever use her own drugs? It seems like she just gets everyone else high and then makes out with them.
-
I hope Prince Tyreese is still around. I liked his character, but the way Tweety and his crew dealt with his betrayal seemed a bit harsh. Especially since Aundre G's death still hasn't been 100% pinned on Tweety yet either.
-
Despite everything bad that happened to Brent in this episode (Dick for dinner anyone?), I still don't like him. He's just such an ass.
-
The word "moist" was used. Priceless.
At this point, I'm in this for the season. I want to know what happens and let's be honest. There are plenty of other shows on that are worse than this. The acting may be corny, the setting unrealistic, but the story has legs. I can look past everything else if the twists and turns keep coming.

Watched for the first time last night. While I am missing a little bit of back story (not too hard to figure out), I really enjoyed the show. It is my new guilty pleasure.

I'm really getting into this show. FX never lets me down. Don's story is actually one of my favorites, disturbing as it may be. How freaky was it when the Kitten called him dad? At first I really wasn't feeling the love connection between Lucy and Holt but after his whispering in her ear last night, I'm having second thoughts. That was hot! And I loved when she says "Good night" and he answers "It could have been". I might have to use that one!
I agree with you JT. Wayne Brady was awesome! I'm so used to him as a comedian, it was refreshing to see him as the villian. Especially since he did such a good job. Oh and his partners comment just as they were leaving Brent's house "You need to season your cutting board". Funny and creepy all at the same time.
Thanks FX. Let just hope "Riches" doesn't disappoint. I Love, Love, Love Eddie Izzard!

I really love this show. I like all the series that FX has done. They don't dumb it down and assume that everyone that watches TV is an idiot. I don't know how realistic it is, but it sure is fun to watch.

I am really hoping this isn't cancelled. Tonight's episode is a clear reason why this show is good, and for some reason I feel like a lot of people aren't giving it a chance.
Man, that Wayne Brady.. that was nuts. I actually thought he really WAS going to chop that dude's dick off. Freaky shit.

The thing is this the show is interesting and capivating, its just a shame that the writer loses creativity by going into the pornography, homosexuality, profanity and resort to what is obviously a LSD flashback from the 60's (the broad giving birth to cats) to get through an episode. Courtney shows her vesatility in a total opposite roll she played in "Friends", and looks totally beautiful, cant understand why all her talent lands on a cheap script that sounds like the porn king Jeremy thought up. Hey its alot of kids up watching TV and its family time, so why embarass us parents and grandparents by the ultimatum of changing channels or exposing our kids to the filth we teach them to stay away from. If you cant take a script and write it without stooping to vulgarity, homosexuality, & porno, then you really have no talent to be a writer.Anyone can do that. EEEGAds save something for the imagination, or air at a later time

I love this show! Courtney Cox is awesome. This role should make everyone forget Monica. Can't wait Jen Aniston's guest appearance. FX puts out great series, Rescue Me, Nip/Tuck etc. And they give new shows a chance to build an audience, which is great.

Wayne Brady's evil turn in this episode was GENIUS! I hope to see more of him in that character; I was truly impressed. His role is comparable to the contrast between Courtney Cox's starring role here and her former life as Monica on "Friends."
This show has become my greatest guilty pleasure - I'm glad they re-play episodes so I won't miss it.

Lei, thats what makes this show interesting. and in my opinion they arent stooping down to anything, for all we know this could be a clear cut picturte of hollywood. Sure this show may not be suitable for children, but thats why there is a rating in the top left hand corner so that idiotic parents dont show it to their kids. this show is genious, Courteny's acting is superb and even better then in friends id say (and im in love with friends)
