Will Grey's Anatomy soon be George-less? MSNBC.com's The Scoop reports that a source says T.R. Knight is upset by how the network/show handled the aftermath of co-star Isaiah Washington's uses of a homophobic slur.
According to the source, Knight was asked to keep quiet about the initial incident, which happened on set. But then, Washington caused a furor by using the word again at the Golden Globes while trying to deny he'd ever used it in the first place.
Only after the Golden Globes backlash did ABC or Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes issue apologies. Washington has since gone into counseling. But according to The Scoop, it's not enough for Knight, who feels the show's atmosphere is "toxic and unhealthy."
It'd be a shame to see Knight driven out of the show, when he didn't do anything wrong. Plus, George O'Malley is an integral character; I really can't imagine Grey's Anatomy without him. Washington has already gotten a second chance and blew it. He should be fired.
Do you agree? Should Washington be canned?

I hope this isn't true, I like T.R.'s character (even though I get upset with George at times) and hope he stays.
I do agree that this situation has been handled poorly. As a gay man I would like to know why Shonda Rhimes took so long to comment. She and the writers have always had quite the open relationship with the viewers on their blog-- but not on this situation. And except for Katherine Heigel the cast has seemed to make light of this situation. I love the show, and watch every week but would be very sad if T.R. was to leave. It would pi-s me off that he would be the one forced out due to tension on the set.
Hopefully this is one of those stories that isn't true

Oh boo hoo. Do I get upset that the openly gay woman at work calls me a breeder? No.
Oh but wait, I'm not on tv right?

It would look really bad for ABC and Grey's if T.R. were to leave the show. If the rumors are untrue, he should threaten to leave then hold out for more money. :-)

Not sure why ANYONE would make a big deal about an argument with a co-worker. Whoopty-freaking-do. seems to me this guy is making a huge mountain out of a molehill. ask David Caruso if it's a bright idea to leave a successful show early. lol

The nerve of those people. Isayah should not be checking in an institution, nor should he fall down on his knees and pray for the good lord to change his ways. he's not a criminal nor is he a drug addict - simply a bigot and a homophob. And as I see it, he should loose his job, not for being a homophob - but for creating a negative work enviroment. Plain and simple.
I gotta admit I am feeling like Grey's is not the same ever since this incident and the silence surrounding it by the producers and management of the show. I for one would have wanted answers a long time ago. I cannot watch TR and Isayah at the same scene. just like Isayah go, we'll all forget about him in a week. And bring the old, beloved, grey back!!
One last thing - if TR quits the show that will be the end of Grey's anatomy. Not because he's that important, just because it will make every fan sick to the stomach to see a good guy leave because of a bigot. I hope TR doesn't get a feeling like he's the bad guy here for not taking Isayah's remark as a joke or something he needs to disregard. TR, you had done nothing wrong! I think most of the fans are supporting you.

From a PR/"what is right" standpoint, Washington should go. From a storyline/what's best for the show pov, Knight should go. I have never liked the George character. He is whiny, in everyone's face all the time, and a big hypocrite. Plus, I think the Burke/Christina relationship is the most interesting right now.

I really hope neither leave. This is one of my favorite shows and each of these characters are integral. George is more a part of the show than Burke, but the latter and Cristina just started a rather large storyline. George is connected to so many others though, removing him would be like taking a chunk of the foundation away.
I heard Shonda Rhymes say in an interview once that she has the whole show planned out seasons ahead, so one of the main characters leaving would strike a blow to the plans, and might ruin the whole vibe of the show as it is.
I hope TR and Isiah can work out their differences, or just grin and bear it, and enjoy being on one of the highest rating, award winning, critically acclaimed shows on television.

Not sure why people are so bent over an argument. Honestly, do you people quit if someone says something mean to you? Do you go to HR and cry about it? Good lord. There is friction at most workplaces. Adults deal with it.

Wow. You can't call people derogatory names and expect that it is okay. The "N" word isn't okay to be used against african-americans and the "F" word is not okay to use against gay men. That fact that some people don't understand that shows how bigotry is so much a part of peoples lives they can't tell when they are wrong.

Leaving the show would be career suicide for TR. He's very lucky to be on such a show. He should bite his lip and stay on, until he becomes more famous, or lands some good movie roles etc..
then he can tell em all to go f*ck themselves.
Its a hard industry to succeed in, for every TR , there are THOUSANDS waiting to take his place.
He should stand up for himself, but at the same time, do it when you have enough power. (like tom cruise)

Too much/too soon. That's what's happening on Grey's Anatomy. The cast is going to ruin this show. Next thing you know it, the women will be fighting for screen time & diva demands will abound. The men will all be pushing to be sexiest guy & we'll see more bickering. Eventually the creator will lose control of the series, get fed up, & leave. Sorry to tell you folks, but I'm afraid The Dr. Whore Show (as most people I know affectionately call it) is on it's way down.

The last time I checked, the plight of gays did not mirror the plight of Blacks, so, please stop with the "N word"/"F word" comparisons. Maybe you all don't get it--all the more reason not to do it.
If this guy wants to leave, let him go. I'm sure he's got a few offers now. His agent has probably been busy. By the way, THAT'S ONE OF THE DIFFERENCES!

1) Gordy, that's purely your opinion. If you're a member of an "oppressed" group, it's natural to think that no other oppressed groups are as oppressed as yours. Each person, white/black/gay/straight, gets to decide whether the "plight" of one group is worse than another.
2) This story is done. It should never have been such a big deal anyway, except that the public is bored and journalists are even more bored. Yes, Washington shouldn't have said what he did. He shouldn't have misguidedly tried to "fix" it at the Golden Globes. Ultimately, this is a personal matter between Washington and Knight, and to some degree Dempsey, maybe all of the GA cast and crew. But it's none of our business.

Both Washington and Knight are fine actors and portray their characters on "Grey's Anatomy" well. I don't believe Washington should be fired, nor should Knight quit. I DO think that Washington should have been severly reprimanded and a public statement denouncing his actions made about it by Rhimes. The fact is that the public perception now is that Washington's bigoted remarks were taken lightly by ABC and "Grey's Anatomy." Onlly Katherine Heigl addressed Washington's behavior in a serious way.
I am a mother of a gay daughter and a "leftist" politicaly and I can tell you that in our house both the "N" and "F" words are NEVER tolerated. My family would NEVER think of saying either word and guests in our home are on notice that such talk calls for an immediate apology or they are shown the door. As Maya Angelou has said-'such talk invites a spirit into your home (i.e. workplace) that you don't want' and that those engaged in such spiritually sick behavior that demeans another human being ought to "cease and desist" or relieve us of their company.
I deeply believe that people CAN change (see "American History X")their bigoted and racist behavior. So I say give washington a chance to grow as a human being and make amends. This is a chance for Washington to become a better person. The mirror has been held up to him, it is now up to him to change waht he has seen.

PS And YES comparisons are fair, even though I DON'T believe Washington should be fired, let's be honest, IF Knight had used the "N" word HE would have been fired. IMMEDIATELY!
