Good news, Eddie Izzard fans! FX has finally set a premiere date for his new dramedy, called The Riches. It will premiere on Monday, March 12th. The cable network hasn't announced a regular time or day but one can assume Monday nights will be it for The Riches. The Riches stars Izzard and Minnie Driver, who I think will both be attempting to cover up their British accents. They play a couple of American con-artists who take on the identity of a dead couple and move their family to the suburbs to live an "honest" life. It kind-of reminds me of My Blue Heaven, that movie where Steve Martin has to live a crime-free life in the suburbs.
You can see promos for the series here.

If the start date coincides with the last (13th) episode of "Dirt," Tuesday night seems more likely.

The TV promos for The Riches uses Angelo Badalamento's theme song to Twin Peaks. I'm wonderiong what the connection is. Does anyone know?

Cool!
If you haven't seen any of Eddie's stand-up
such as Sexy, Full Circle and others, they are
well worth renting. He is an absolute hoot, and
I cannot wait to see this show.

I just watched the pilot episode of The Riches. Already it has subtleness, texture, intensity and heart. I'll definitely be watching this show. It's now been added as an official favorite.

Eddie was so good I almost wonder why he wasted time doing comedy -- but, wait, he did that well, too. And Minnie Driver blew me away. EXCELLENT show. I watched the premier AND the rebroadcast that came immediately afterward. Applause to all who are connected with this show.

I think this show is one of the most original I've seen! I will watch religiously. Does anyone know what song was used in the opening scene over the credits? I thought maybe a David Gray song, but I'm not sure?
Thanks. :)

It was a good show, but Eddie (one of my all time favorites) needs to continue to work on his American accent. Too much British slips through and there were some run-on words that I know only happened because he hasn't perfected it yet. Minnie Driver does fine with the Southern dialect; don't know about any Emmy's but the show is good, SO far.

It was a brilliant show! so witty, funny and sharp! were they really using curse words (s***) or was just me finishing the sentence? i thought that was very bold for basic cable...but hey it did the trick.
the song that was used during the opening credits were by Gomez British indie rock band (how we operate) great song.

Thanks for the info on the song, Martyne!
Yes, those were definitely curse words you heard! F/X is very liberal with adult material in a lot of their shows...Rescue Me, Dirt, Nip/Tuck...they push the envelope all the time!
And I like it!

I wasn't too impressed. Eddy has done AMAZING work with his accent but he TOTALLY doesn't come across as deepsouth scrub at all.
I'm going to keep watching because, while I think the storyline is kind of doomed, it shocked me over and over again with just how rich the characters are.
Okay, what was eddy qouting at the end of the show?

The Riches is simply one of the best shows on television. If you are a fan of drama, comedy, and action – this is the show for you. The Riches stars Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver as a family of con-artists who steal the American Dream. The dialogue is witty and the acting is superb. If you haven't seen the pilot yet, don't wait another minute! Once you watch the first 5 minutes, you'll be hooked. There's a magic to the show, one that steals your heart and leaves wanting more. I can't wait until the next episode. I want to see how the characters develop. Eddie and Minnie make a dynamic tandem; the soundtrack is eloquent and inspired. Kudos to FX for bringing America a show with complexity, character, and spirit.
