You know how Lewis Black appears on The Daily Show once a week to talk about news stories that have "slipped through the cracks?" Well, consider this one of those "slipped through the cracks" stories that I thought was just too cool not to mention. I trust some of you haven't heard this story, but if you have, then take this time to go do something else. Make yourself a muffin, have a cup of tea. Be good to yourself.
Jerry Orbach, best known for his role as Detective Lennie Briscoe on Law and Order, passed away in 2004. One of his wishes while he was alive was to have his eyes donated after his death. Recently, his wish was granted when two individuals --one who needed correction for a nearsighted eye and another who needed correction for a farsighted eye-- received Orbach's corneas. Orbach's face is now also being used in a new ad campaign for Eye Bank for Sight Restoration in Manhattan.
Orbach was always my favorite actor on Law and Order, and encouraging people to donate organs even after his death makes me like him even more.

Actors come and go on all the Law & Order shows, but Jerry/Lennie is the only one I truly miss. And this story just shows he was a great man that cared about others.

After my dad died in August, 1987, he donated his eyes (which he requested prior to his untimely death). This may sound morbid, but I'd love to find out who his eyes were donated to, and maybe one day meet that person. Though I have no idea if I can ever find out who, or even how to start looking.
