'Idol' continues to crush Wednesday night competition

AI judges/New YorkOnce again, American Idol lived up to its reputation as a juggernaut -- or large, overpowering, destructive force -- by drawing more viewers during Wednesday's night telecast than all of the other major networks combined. According to recent Nielsen ratings, American Idol drew 36.9 million viewers total, leaving ABC, CBS, NBC and the CW Network all out in the cold.

While Idol's numbers continue to be impressive, the biggest ratings this week so far went to President George W. Bush's State of the Union Address with a reported 45.5 million viewers.

Last week, despite drawing a record-breaking number of viewers to its two-night season premiere, Idol was beaten in the weekly ratings by the AFC championship game between the Indianapolis Colts and the New England Patriots, which claimed 46.7 million viewers.

From where I stand, it sure looks like the American people love to watch their American football, their American President, and of course, American Idol.
