Oxygen is comedy according to Oxygen

Oxygen Geraldine LaybourneOxygen CEO Geraldine Laybourne (pictured) would like you to know that "comedy is Oxygen's voice." I'm afraid her saying that will only add fuel to the Christopher Hitchens "women aren't funny" fire because as far as I can see Oxygen is only unintentionally hilarious. If anything, Oxygen programs like The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency provoke the kind of nervous laughter in me that comes from shame, embarrassment and the fear that the society I live in has become completely unhinged. Apparently, any kind of laughter is good enough for the "network for women."

Oxygen announced this week that they are expanding their slate of tongue-in-cheek reality programs to include a full-length series version of Monique's F.A.T. Chance, a plus-sized modeling competition; Fight Girls, a reality show about female kickboxers; Rodeo Girls, like Fight Girls but with horses and more dirt; and Adfight, a reality series about the advertising world. Alright, Monique is actually funny when she's in Queens of Comedy fighting form, but the best chance the remainder of the programming has to produce any genuine laughter may rest with the editors of The Soup and Best Week Ever.
