It's been written before, but it's worth repeating: TV Squad does not do episode recaps. We write reviews/opinions of episodes for people who have already seen them in order to spur discussion.
I chose to review Monk because I'm a big fan of the show, but it has become more and more difficult for me not to repeat myself with each review. Five seasons in, I think the show has found a comfortable niche, but I can only write about that niche so many times before I get sick of it. Monk has more or less used the same basic plot since it began, and if it weren't for Tony Shalhoub's ability to embody the character of Adrian Monk so perfectly, myself and other fans would have grown tired of the show a long time ago. Monk is a character-driven series, and that's just fine, but at this point I've said all I can say about it.
If you liked my reviews, thanks for reading. Personally, I never thought they were my best for the reasons mentioned above. Fans of the series can still check out the series' Web site, which has episode recaps and video clips.

Yeah, I stopped watching because they stopped progressing the plot. You're right though -- reviews are pointless at this point. And I hated how Natalie calls him "Mr. Monk". Maybe that's changed, but it just got a little stale for me, watching him be miserable all the time. But tony Shalhoub is great at what he does. :)

I can understand. Monk has become a show I watch when my Tivo is low on programs. It's sad bcs I really do enjoy Shalhoub's acting. But really - how do you evolve a character that is so resistant to change?

I can understand why reviewing each episode might feel repetitive to you, but it is still a very fun show to watch, and I still wait eagerly for each episode.
But, having said that, would it hurt to have the writers throw us a bone and advance solving Trudy's murder case just a little bit more each season? I keep looking for that six-fingered man, but haven't seen him yet...

I now watch to see how they are hiding Taylor Howard's pregnancy. She sat down alot this last episode. Plus Julie was around alot this episode too, doesn't she need to be in school?
Sure there is no mystery to this show anymore but I still really enjoy it especially now that it's packaged with Psych. They compliment each other well.

While the acting is indeed solid, your reasoning for not reviewing Monk anymore is exactly why I stopped watching the show. Add to that, the "humor" is often painful in the writers' clear attempt to expand the one-note storylines.

I thought this episode, and the gushing over his new 'best' friend was a different spin on Arian's personality. It was an enjoyable change of pace for the usual Monk episode. Very funny to watch.

I think a big part of it is that Psych is so good, it makes Monk look worse by comparison. Even though Monk is as good as it's ever been, it pales next to its new partner.

I have to say, this was a bad week for you to not right an episode review. Was it just me, or was this the strongest episode of Monk in many years?! Monk just really fit into his role at the house, and even his assistant wasn't too bad. Of course, the mystery was nonexistent, but that's not really why we watch Monk anyways. You could tell Monk was really enjoying himself, which was a nice change.
On the other hand, the ending royally sucked, all the more because of the general greatness of the rest of the episode. But it didn't change the fact that the rest of the episode was generally very great.
Maybe you could just review this last episode of Monk? Maybe it will give you a renewed interest in the series.
