Every week it's the same damn thing: the top 20 network shows always include a few CSIs, a couple of Law and Orders, and a bunch of reality shows and game shows. Why doesn't the Nielsen list reflect what I watch every week? Why do people complain about the Nielsens when the numbers say that, well, somebody is watching those shows every single week.
Sure, it's great to see a show like Heroes or Lost or Old Christine or even ER crack the top 20 on some weeks, but most weeks the list is a mystery to me. In my mind, this is my dream Top 10 for any given week. (I could try to name 20 but I think after 10 I probably couldn't think of any shows and that would depress me.)
1. Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
2. The Office
3. Heroes
4. 60 Minutes
5. Ugly Betty
6. Jericho
7. Scrubs
8. Old Christine
9. Specials*
10. Lost
You'll notice my Nielsens don't include a single CSI, any of the Law and Order shows, American Idol, or any game show with overdramatic lighting and annoying pauses. Hey, it's my dream list.
* Whatever specials that happen to air during the week: holiday specials, special news reports, award shows, etc. Hey, you gotta leave a space for that stuff.

Amen to that! Even though we don't really agree on the shows we want in our top 10/20 we definitly agree on the fact that most of the time the nielsen ratings top 20 sucks big time!
It's always full of crap i don't watch or want to watch like the endless number of CSI's or Law and Orders and all the stupid reality shows and other mind numbing procedurals. Oh and can't forget sitcoms.. do people really watch sitcoms anymore? I guess they do.. After Seinfeld no other sitcom comes even remotely close to being funny! I'm all about 1 hour shows now! That's what i love to watch.
And since most serials(my favorite kind of TV) died quickly we'll be seeing even LESS next year and the top 20 will STILL be filled by the same shit over and over again! Americans never learn do they? :P
Every year i get into all the serial shows networks throw at me and every year 85% of them get cancelled because most Americans with the nielson box are too stupid to know what's good TV! American Idol and Dancing with the Retards pretty much sums up the stupidity of today's television/ratings world. Oh well.
But whatever, i still love to watch TV and i'll still give networks a chance next year with more serials!

How could you miss "30 Rock"?! If your sensibilities include "Studio 60" and "The Office," then "30 Rock" ought to be in your top five!

First off, don't get me wrong, I like studio 60 and I'm rooting for it...
but it was the most overhyped show. People tell me that it's too intelligent for the american audience, but that's BS. It's just simply not that good. Do we care that Matt and Harriet got together finally? No. I hope it gets better, cause if it doesn't, this will be its last year

Replace Old Christine with How I Met Your Mother, 60 Minutes with 24, and I could go with that Nielsen ratings.

i dont know how anyone would put studio 60 as #1. seen it a few times, was bored with it. Its not even funny. I agree with the Neilsens about it. Enjoy while you can, because it will be cancelled after this year. A expensive show like this with rating it has. Hell i switched to "what about Brian", and enjoy it more every week. Something Studio has failed to do.

What a waste of a post. We can't even go a month and we're bascially getting a repost of your best and worst list.

If you're running out of things to write about, how about giving us a good "What to Watch" instead of a repeat of AOL content. While you're fixing things, is TVSquad contractually obligated to include "TCA Report" in article titles. It really adds nothing to the headline.

Question about nielsen ratings: back in the day I remember to be rated you had to have a special box on top of your TV. Today are the ratings still based on a narrow slice of the population or does everyone with say digital cable contribute to the ratings?
If not it would seem nielsen is still out dated.

the ratings always baffle me. my friends and i don't watch most of those shows and neither do my parents, so that covers college kids and 50 something. who exactly are they surveying and what is the main demo for tv? i guess i just have a false impression of who actually watches prime time tv.

There's about 12 shows on network TV better than Studio 60:
24
Lost
The Office
Ugly Betty
Heroes
How I met Your Mother
Grey's Anatomy
Friday Night Lights
Prison Break
Boston Legal
Jericho
The Amazing Race
30 Rock
Las Vegas
And about 7 more cable shows:
Weeds
Big Love
Rome
Battlestar Galactica
Rescue Me
The Shield
and evidently the Wire (although I have not watched it)
after all those shows I would place Studio 60. About the 20th best show on TV.

I REALLY like Studio 60.
And to the person who said it was the most over-hyped show on TV, I'm pretty sure Heros wins that one by a landslide.
My dream list would be pretty similar, but with a little less Jerico, Ugly Betty, and Lost...
and with a little more House, How I Met Your Mother, and Bones.

While Studio 60 wouldn't be at the top of my list, it still is one of the smartest and best-written shows on television.
I'm sure I'll get hammered for my personal #1, but here's my dream list.
Lost - yes, the quality has dipped, but this show has no equal.
24 - Jack is back and better than ever.
Grey's Anatomy - fantastic and quirky writing.
Heroes - ground-breaking, great pacing.
Prison Break - Although better in Season 1, still grabs you and doesn't let go.
Studio 60 - simply put, brilliant.
The Office - best comedy on television.
30 Rock - a close second to the above-mentioned. Alec Baldwin, need I say more?
Jericho - surprisingly entertaining, even with Skeet
Survivor - I know, I know, but hey, we all need a guilty pleasure don't we...

For the record, I loved the West Wing while Aaron Sorkin was involved with the show.
However, I've been completely disappointed with Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. What an unremarkable show and utter waste of all talents involved. It's not underappreciated. The show simply does not work. And what's worse, nobody responsible for the show seems to realize they've over-extended their welcome.
To be frank, if NBC were doing better in the ratings with their other shows, a show such as this would never last on their schedule.

Wow, alot of people seem to not be a fan of Studio 60. That's a shame. It is a grat show. I personally wouldn't put it at number 1 (That spot is reserved for Scrubs. Number 7 Bob, really?) House would then immediately follow it. I know, I know, it's formulaic: the team banter about what it possibly couldn't be, House decalres it it something rediculous and pops some vicodin, his team say he's lost it this time but go along with him anyway, the patient gets worse (sometimes more than once), thus leading house to the correct diagnosis and saving the world. I love it.
Arrested Development would be next because in my dream world that show would have never been cancelled.
I'll stop now, because this is long enough already, and I'm bored now.
Scrubs must never end!!
