I love T.R. Knight. He was in a very uncomfortable situation yesterday on Ellen and he handled it as well as possible. Ellen DeGeneres brought up the whole ugly event where Isaiah Washington called Knight a "faggot" and nearly got into a punching match with Patrick Dempsey. Knight told Ellen what happened and why he responded the way he did. Soon after the fight became public, T.R. Knight 'came out' to the media and said he was gay. He told Ellen that he did it to stand up for himself because he was horrified by hearing the f-word directed at him. Ellen also asked Knight about Washington stirring up the whole escapade again at the Golden Globes and Knight seemed at a loss for words. You can see all that and more in the clip after the jump. I think I spent the entire five minute clip holding my breath because Knight is so visibly nervous and super uncomfortable. I think he comes away a hero, though.

Thanks for posting Anna, that was a really moving interview. Clearly, Ellen's coming out had a huge impact on T.R. when he was younger. We should all be so lucky to have such heroes who give us strength to do the tough things in life.

I love TR Knight and his character on Grey's . I cannot believe that Washington would stoop to such hedonistic "name-calling". As a person of color he must realize that sterotypical name calling is Sexual preference does not dictate a person's talent. After all, Washington must be "straight" and it hasn't helped him as an actor or a human! ignorant and hurtful. I am ashamed for him. Way to go "George" You are a wonderful person and I wish you happiness.

A hero? Gimme a break. What I find just as disturbing as Isaiah Washington calling him a disgusting name is the way the media keeps harping on this and the fact that people are trying to make TR Knight out to be some kind of great matyr. No one forced him to come out.
People are called racist, sexist, homophobic names everyday....LET IT GO.

The guy should have kept a private argument private... In my eyes he is just looking for a little press at the expect of someone else.

To ThatRonGuy: Just so you keep your facts "straight", TR did keep the matter private when it happened, not saying anything other than confirming that he was gay. That is until Washington brought the whole thing up again at the Golden Globes last Monday and lied on camera to the public about what he said. Watch the tape. Washington brought it up, not TR. TR felt that with Washington's public denial, it was time to speak up and not remain silent anymore and tell the truth. Kudos to TR. Washington: get thee to rehab.

Sorry, I don't agree. Hateful acts should not be ignored, it only causes escalation. TR is right to stand up against Washington. It doesn't make him a hero. But just like Rosa Parks, sometimes it's important to stand up and be counted.

Oh I bet there are some big meetings going on right now with Shonda and the network.
Isaiah apparently needs a "continuity editor" to keep track of this incident, and a PR spin doctor, and some impulse control.

Clearly? I say not. It's not like he was openly gay beforehand. He was outed...very publicly. What's the big deal? A good 90% of 'out' people come to the party that way. The other 10% required no introduction.
The funny/ironic part of it all is that Mr. Washington isn't 100% straight.

Good for TR! I believe that he's definitely the bigger person. He didn't ask for all of this mess in the first place; but he's handeled it with grace.

I can't believe that anyone would refer to T.R. Knight as a hero! Are you serious? I truly believe that, as usual, he is being looked at like the character he portrays on Grey's and not as a real person. This whole poor pathetic look that he has on and off the set is soo ridiculous. Just because you're gay, doesn't mean you have to be weak.
He got called a faggot--who cares? Straight guys call each other faggot all the time. Gay guys call each other faggot all the time.
Lets be clear that faggot is NOT the same as nigger. Anyone who thinks that it is needs to brush up on American history.
No one needs to be punished or fired. Everyone just needs to stop believing that these actors are on a higher plain than the rest of us. They say and do stupid things just like everyone else. Get over it and stop trying to be the PC(political correctness)Police.

@ThatEricGuy - Please read what I wrote. I in no way said this should have been ignored. But how long does this need to be dragged out? This incident didn't happen yesterday, last week or even last month. It happened several months ago. LET IT GO.
And for you to actually bring up Rosa Parks name is an insult.

i cant believe how this "genius" has dug his career into a grave so deep, he would need a miracle to survive.
the initial event, albeit reprehensible, was practically forgotten and could have easily been swept under the rug if it were not for his idiotic comments.
everyone is, to some extent, racist and homophobic, its in our nature, its instinctual. what separates the good and the bad, is self control and diplomacy.
yes most black people have a generally more violent disposition, and yes jews are conniving and greedy, whites have a superiority complex, and asians work really really hard.
the muslim religion doesnt make sense, their treatment of women is dispicable. the americans have no culture, whereas the european's culture is highly racist.
etc.. etc.. all this things ARE 100% true, we cant say it out loud people!
YES being gay IS a perversion of nature, its not normal and even though they cant help it, they shouldn't "BE" gay, they shouldnt have anal sex with each other. Just be celebate and chalk it up to bad luck and move on with your life!
so forgive and forget, but in isiah's case, this idiot has no chance!

The original incident happened on the set. It should have stayed on the set. I guarantee, this is not the only show to have conflict on the set. The show was already tops in the ratings and needed no attention.
I used to love the show, watched it from day one. I never liked TR's whiny character.
These celebs were all D-list, or unknown. Now they are famous. Shut-up! Why, do people care so much? How come there is no outcry for Lindsey Lohan. She isn't even 21, but it is totally okay for her to publically display her alcholic behavoir.
I think TR is more upset about his family hearing of his lifestyle in the media. As if nobody knew.
His closet door was wide open.

Rai,
I can't believe that you believe that if (some) guys call each other "faggot" all the time that somehow makes it ok!!!! Is that the same as (some) guys calling women "ho's" and that being acceptable???
PEOPLE! get a clue! Being gay/lesbian/bi/transgendered is not a choice!! Do you really think that people would choose to be discriminated against? Hated? Choose to be part of a group that is consistantly, repeatedly and in some states, legally discriminated against???? As an out lesbian, I get so pissed off at the closed minds in this forum!

Isaiah Washington committed a tort against T.R. Knight and against Shonda Rimes, in that he committed assault and battery against them. Snatching that mike out of Shonda's hand was a violation of her person. He had no legal right to touch her. Repeating his insult against T.R. was designed to hold him up to ridicule, in front of a world wide audience. Somebody should call Gloria Allred.
