Every year the Harris Poll asks TV viewers for who they think is the best TV personality. Every year, Oprah is number one, and a bunch of the usual suspects are in the top 10. But the 2006 actually has a few surprises. Here's the list:
1. Oprah Winfrey
2. Jon Stewart
3. Bill O'Reilly
4. Hugh Laurie
5. David Letterman
6. Jay Leno
7. Ray Romano
8. Kiefer Sutherland
8. Ellen DeGeneres
8. Conan O'Brien
What's odd about the list is that most of them are actual TV "personalities," TV hosts of some kind. But somehow, the fictional characters of Jack Bauer from 24 and Dr. House from House made the list, along with the fictional character of Ray Barone from Everybody Loves Raymond, which hasn't been on TV for almost a year.
Great to see Letterman beat Leno and Stewart beat O'Reilly. But why are Conan O'Brien and Jay Leno on this list?
Who should be in those spots taken up by Kiefer Sutherland, Hugh Laurie, and Ray Romano?

Why would Conan not be on the list? His show has done well, despite it's late hour, he's slated to take over the Tonight Show in just over a year, and he did a decent job hosting the Emmys.
And, yes, while I have no idea why fictional people are on the list, I would much rather watch Hugh Laurie's fictional character than Trump's bloated ego.

i agree with # 2, jay leno is as funny as me, which is sad, cuz i have absolutly no sense of humor. Just cant wait til 2009, when they remove this nutjob fom late night. He should do the public a service and back off sooner. I stopped watching him over a year ago for one simple reason, HIS JOKES ARE STALE. AND HE REPEATS THEM ALL FREAKIN WEEK. eITHER GET NEW WRITERS, OR JUST QUIT. i prefer you do the latter.

The reason I don't like Jay Leno is not because he isn't "funny". Funny is just too subjective to really even argue about.
The real problem I have with him is the way he (and his manager at the time) campaigned for the Tonight Show gig. Because Letterman was not the NBC/GE suck up that Leno was, he was not given the show.
Leno, who reportedly was friends with Letterman and was featured heavily on 'Late Night', in a way stabbed him in the back.
