Isaiah Washington may be the least liked cast member on the set of Grey's Anatomy. After the Golden Globes, he ticked off Katherin Heigl, who plays "Izzie" on the show. After the cast won the Golden Globe for Best Drama, Washington faced some tough questions from the media about an explosive incident on the set last year where Washington reportedly called T.R. Knight a "faggot", and nearly got in a fistfight with Patrick Dempsey over his comment. The entire thing led to T.R. Knight admitting his homosexuality to the national media. On Monday night, Washington told the media types that the whole incident "never, never happened." Katherine Heigl disagrees and sounded off to Access Hollywood, saying that Washington is full of crap. Knight concurs. It sounds like Washington makes his work environment rather uncomfortable.

This is what is so upsetting to me. Both Isaiah and Patrick got sort of "rescued" by this show - their careers are enjoying a boost all because of the success of Grey's. Why the hell would Isaiah try to screw this up? Whatever happened on the set he has not tried to handle it appropriately at all. I agree with Katherine - he needs to shut the f... up.

Tolerance for anti-homosexual epithets is no virtue. If Knight had used a certain epithet against Washington, he would have been fired on the spot. And rightly so. Washington should be fired for his hate speech.

I think Isaiah could have handled this situation so much better by simply saying he'd rather focus on celebrating the win by the show. But by adamently denying that the incident ever happened, it insults not just the public's intelligence, but that of his cast mates as well. I am a HUGE fan of this show, but I will not be surprised or upset if the leadership decides to RECAST THIS ROLE.

Um, Justin, isn't the last thing she says "Drawing attention to it and saying the word AGAIN is just unnecessary." (Emphasis added for "again".)
That tells me that she means BOTH times...

He is a DISGRACE. He should be FIRED and T.R. should sue him for the verbal slur. If it were the other way around and T.R. called him a racial slur he would be fired and a big deal would be made of it. Isaiah your acting leaves alot to be desired just as much of your lack of integrity.

It very well could be the Black Thing of not going against each other because Washington and Rimes are both black. I dont know if any of you noticed Jamie Fox ONLY acknowledging black people before he spoke at the awards! When will everyone just get along?

Ellen (#7) you are completely right. Kayne West said it best after hurricane Katrina when he said "Jamie Fox hates white people".

He's also the least-likable character on the show. He has exactly one facial expression, one monotone way of speaking, and one overall task: To barely say anything and look grumpy all the time. Here's hoping they write him off the show.

I was disappointed in Washington but do not feel that Rimes is keeping him because he is Black. She is keeping him because he is a fine actor. Just because Jamie Foxx acknowledges his people does not mean he doesn't like white people. Quit making this a race thing. Washington made an insulting remark period. He owes TR an apology and everyone else stay out of it.

When you read the full stories about this second incident you see how Washington comes off sounding like such an ass; a conceited ass. It's a shame for several reasons. One, there are very few good roles for African Americans on television these days and Greys is one of the few shows that has THREE in leading roles. Two, why would Washington want to screw up the best thing that's happened to his career? Three, why would Washington want to once again bring attention to something that has already bit him in the behind, where the heck are his agents telling him to shut up? The sad fact is Washington is an integral part of this cast and his loss would have a great impact on the quality of the series.

I think it is clear that no one really knows what happened on set. Was the "F" word used? Washington says no. T.R. Knight says yes. T.R. was not there when the alleged incident happened. I don't think Heigl was there either. And even if he said it, did he really mean it? I know I say a ton of garbage when drunk or angry but I don't mean it. I guess we're all sort of taking sides without really knowing much of anything, yeah?
I like Washington. He's a great actor. You take him out of the show and I guarantee you it will make matters worse. People will start resenting T.R. and Heigl. The ratings will fall. Paula Zahn will do yet another segment on racsim and discrimination in America. God help us. Political correctness is killing us softly.
No individual won a Golden Globe. But as an ensemble, they are second to none. They represent something unique on primetime television: a racially and culturally diverse cast of characters. Let them figure things out on and off the set.
Peace.

#14 - I agree with you. The problem is that Isaiah isn't letting things be worked out on the set - he keeps talking about it. The chemisty of the actors is what makes the show such a good ensemble show. If the others aren't happy working with him the entire production is going to suffer. He has gotten a lot of heat for the whole thing from the moment it happened but he just won't stop talking! If he would shut up maybe it could die a natural death.

Complete, complete agreement with Belinda #11 on Washington and Foxx. (Only other thing I will say is that it feels the same as the Trump/O'Donnel feud, where one side should clearly shut up and one side should clearly ignore the other side that should shut up. Or each side could act grown up and apologize, but now, that would be too much).

The whole situation is so ugly, but I do give Heigl a lot of credit for standing up for her friend. She could have taken the easy way out and said a polite "No comment," but she went to bat for TR, and I really admire that.

So can you honestly tell me that if any of the actors referred to Washington or any of the black members of the cast the N-word, that person wouldn't have been fired quickly or at least the controversy itself would force the big ups to write the character off?
Even if this is not really related to the incident, there IS a double standard.

This is the video interview (in its entirety) of Heigl (saying "he needs to just not speak in public.") and Washington (to Billy and Nancy, "I kiss Patrick Dempsey!")
http://www.accesshollywood.com/news/ah3543.shtml
Personally, I don't think Washington would be fired over this remark because the actors have contracts and Shonda Rhimes would do everything she could to make sure the story for her show comes first.
Plus, yeah, I do think there's a double standard, "F-word" doesn't weight as much as the "N-word," that's just the way it is in America.

Angela - what exactly could this guy sue over? That'd be like a person with kids suing because a homosexual called him a breeder. Facts are facts. You can sue for slander/libel if the person says you were convicted of a crime and weren't or if they said something patently false. Calling this guy - who is gay - a faggot isn't something one can sue over.

Here's the funny thing, isn't the guy he supposedly called faggot really gay? What's the big deal? Maybe my gay friends are different but we say many things to each other that I think the PC world wouldn't agree with (one friend is always tearing into me for being, white, straight and disabled - in turn I I go after his drug-using, club-kid, boy-toy lifestyle). Shrug, who really freaking cares if he called a homosexual a fag?
FWIW, the show is lame, poorly written and just plain silly.
