(S03E12) I have complained in previous posts about Susan's storylines. However, this episode focused on the character's parenting. I thought it was refreshing and funny: She is not willing to violate her daughter's privacy by actually reading Julie's journal, but it's okay if Gaby does it. I think that is a fast and funny approach to dealing with the dilemma most parents have. What is more important? Preserving privacy and trust or finding out what our children are up to?The most compelling moment was the scene between Susan and Julie on the porch. Susan tells Julie that the thing that hurt her the most is that Julie went to Edie behind her back. That is probably what would upset me the most too. Of course, Julie had a point when she told Susan her reasons for turning to Edie. Susan did indeed freak during their conversation about birth control. But I think Susan pretty much nailed it on the head when she said, "Every mother hopes their child won't have sex until they're dead." I am in that camp, myself. But I think also that I'd rather help my kids get birth control than have them ask another adult, and especially rather than have them get a girl pregnant. I'm soooooo glad we finally got the whole Austin-is-cheating-on-Julie storyline over with quickly.
I really like the Gaby/Carlos story arc right now. I like that they have the kind of trust that will let her go and ask him for help, and for him to give it, even while they are bantering the whole time. The fact that her admirer is Zach Young is just hilarious. The actor handled the part completely deadpan too-- he could have poked fun at himself or the character, but instead, he was completely and earnestly in love with Gaby. It was great when Gaby told him, "Don't steal a ferrari if you don't know how to drive!" But of course, the most significant part of the encounter was Gaby's decision to stand on her own two feet. It would be a good thing if Gaby could take baby steps toward becoming more independent at the same time that she is tiptoeing her way back to Carlos.
So, okay, why was it okay in that scene for Gaby to want to assert her independence, but in the next scene, Lynette couldn't let Tom maintain his dignity? Bear with me here: Is it too strong to say that she emasculates him at every turn? She undermines him, criticizes him, and then she rescues him. I think there is a strong undercurrent of love in their relationship, but I don't think that comparing some inspirations for some ad campaigns is the same thing as completely saving his liquor license. And what is it lately on prime time with women having to show their bosoms in order for men to do what they want? First CSI, now Desperate Housewives. Do these writers all have lunch together on the same lots?
Bree had the best line of the show, hands down. "It's like I am hosting some kind of Mormon slumber party!" On the Bree front, whoa: Finding Monique's teeth? That's pretty damning. Is it a coincidence that Orson is a dentist? So, is this what Alma knows about Orson? Or did Mike take out all of Monique's teeth? And how does Orson's mother know that Orson ran over Mike? Ahhh, so many un-answered questions. Did you hear that they are going to start filming DH in Marcia Cross's bedroom, because she has been put on bed rest? They have two more episodes to shoot, so they are going to film them on location, so to speak. So, who do you think Bree's going to go after with her shiny, black pistol? Alma? Or Orson?
Thank you for those of you who kindly provided me with information. Thank you, I have it now. I began reviewing DH this season. I have not yet had an opportunity to watch the first two seasons, but I am making that a priority this week.

The guy in prison who hates Mike is Paul Young (Zach's "father" and husband to Mary Alice who narrates every week). Paul was framed for murdering Mrs. Hubber's sister. Also Mike is really Zach's father.

That guy is Mark Moses, he plays Zach's father Paul Young.
My favorite line was when Susan said to Julie, "Do you want it to burn when you pee?"
I really felt bad for Julie when her mom told her that her boyfriend was cheating on her. For the record Bree's daughter is a tramp and I hope Julie beats the spoiled tramp.
I do think that Lynette does undermine Tom a lot just to end up rescuing him in the end. Both characters have changed drastically since the season began although I'm not sure it's for the better. Their marriage is going to get a bit rocky.
As for the Gabrielle story line I think it serves as the comic relief in the show now and definitely fulfilled that purpose this week.
Gross for Bree holding those teeth at the end in her hand just chillen reporting it on the phone. Although I think her and Gabby and Lynette usually have the best and strongest story lines.
and lastly, anyone else bored with the whole mike in prison thing? I am. Mike has gotten the shafted these last two seasons and his story line this year has been weak when they're trying to delay the mystery of his accident and this whole murdering Monique thing.

His name is Austin not Josh. And you really need to rewrite the opening 2 paragraphs of this post. Horrible.

Re: Okay, who is the guy who is pretending to be Mike's friend in prison? He looks familiar, but I can't place him. Can you please leave a comment? And why does he hate Mike?
It's Paul Young! Have you seen this show before? You're losing this site it's credibility. Top 1 worst post. Congrats.

Yeah, that was Paul! He was a really important character in Season 1 and some of Season 2. Did you just start watching this season? :) Anywho, great episode tonight. I love Gabby's one-liners!

What I can't understand is how Bree and Orson are legally married? Why do they refer to Alma as his ex-wife? Did they mention anything about divorce and I missed it? As far as I know, I thought Alma disappeared while they were still married to make it seem as if Orson killed her. Wouldn't this make her his current wife?

No. 6: Orson divorced Alma in absentia after the abandoned him.
What was with the horrible hair last night? Alma looks like she just rolled out of bed, Zach looks like Fabio or one of Anne Rice's vampires (and ridiculous), and Gabby and Edie both had ENORMOUS hair-extension pony tails.
Nicolette Sheridan already looks like a horse; did she need a tail too?
Does anyone remember the specific quote from Lynette when Tom said something about her not seeing the restaurant until the opening and she said something to the effect that he wouldn't be enjoying "her opening" until then either? It was really funny.

How do we know those are Monique's teeth? I must have missed something. Was there something about her not having her teeth when they found her body? Or is this just an assumption by Jen Creer?

Monique's body was found with all of her teeth removed.

Who is "Jen Creer"? Is she in 5th grade? Not only are her diction and grammar appalling, the fact that she asks "who is the guy who is pretending to be Mike's friend in prison" makes me wonder not only if she's ever written anything before but if she's even watched the show in the past, either.

After Tom banned Lynette from the opening, the exchange went like this:
Tom (sounding somewhat anxious): "Aren't we going to have sex?"
Lynette: "You banned me from _your_ opening."
And yes it was a great line.

Nice re-write. I hope TVS is springing for DVDs of the first two seasons for you.

Agreed. Nice rewrite. The first version was pretty rough. :)
And don't pay attention to commenters like Jim. He apparently doesn't know that diction refers to spoken language, so unless you're reciting the post to him, he's just trying to sound smarter than he is. :P

Um, no, diction does not refer to spoken language. Diction is simply word choice. And your comment? That's what we call ironic.
