The king of all mind-numbingly addictive media Mark Burnett has been signed by MTV to produce this year's MTV Movie Awards. Ratings for the annual masturbatory celebration of mainstream media and young Hollywood have been slipping for the past several years. MTV is hoping that Burnett, who has never produced an award's show before, will shake things up. His first step in that direction - airing the show live. While Burnett will keep the zany movie parodies and kooky categories, he's trying to turn down the slick and get the stars to go "off-prompter." Burnett and MTV are also talking about upping the buzzworthiness of the program by incorporating user-generated content into the proceedings.According to Burnett what makes the show so gosh darn special is that "viewers feel like they're just hanging out with the stars." Whatever. What makes the show so gosh darn special is that the stars dress sluttier than they do at the Oscars, and the awards honor the movies people actually watch and quote back to each other ad nauseum. If you want to up the tabloid potential and the ratings, take a tip from the Golden Globes, set up some tables and keep the champagne flowing.

Well great, because if a nearly 50 year old man can't bring some "Hip" to MTV, who can? Once again, MTV has missed the boat...

I concur 1000% with InLA - MTV HAS MISSED THE BOAT AGAIN. Their award show lost its luster eons ago.
I'm more than irate at how this promising network morphed into the CRAPPY waste of TV programming it is today. One tip which might return MTV to greatness: PLAY THE DAMN VIDEOS, YOU MORONS!
