(S06E10) Winter break is over folks, and Smallville is back with ... Tori Spelling? Yes, you read (and probably saw) that right. Miss 90210 herself has broken out of Beverly Hills and made her way to Smallville. She brings Clark yet another double L connection, playing snarky gossip columnist Linda Lake who tries to blow the lid on Lex Luthor and Lana Lang (butting heads with Chloe SuLLivan in the process), and Lois Lane thinks that OLLie Queen might be the Green Arrow. Leapin' lizards, there's probably a whole crate of extra Ls being ordered by the production team in order to keep up with everything.
So, with Lana still reeling from Lex's marriage proposal, she's hoping to "revisit her past" to seek answers. Which is female code-word talking for "I'm going to see if there's someone better that I might regret not going out with again, so just hang on for an answer." Of course, poor Clark has to read it on the Daily Planet gossip page, which makes me wonder whatever happened to Perry White and The Inquisitor. This sort of drudge is much more suited for their pages, not for the newspaper of Metropolis.
The thing that really threw me this episode wasn't Lana's soul searching, or Lois' Green Arrow investigation (which actually both seem pretty in-line with their characters), but the fact that Tori Spelling could turn into water. It was just a very wacky addition, and Spelling was about 11 notches over the top. If she dyed her hair black and changed her name to Elvira, she'd have a good career in her future introducing late-night horror flicks. Seriously, she was that bad ... in fact now that I think about it, I'm slamming Elvira more than Spelling. Sorry, Elvira!
Basically it boils down to an episode where everyone is checking up on everyone else: Linda's digging up dirt on Clark and Lana, Lois is trying to find out the secret identity of Green Arrow, Clark is snooping around trying to find out what Lois might know and to help Ollie keep his secret. It's all secrets, all the time here on Smallville. My one big question though ... how the heck does Linda Lake hear when she's in water form? That's a hell of a trick.
Still, all of my quibbles aside, there was some great stuff in this episode. One thing was Chloe finally up and giving it to Clark for being stuck in the middle of everyone's secrets, and being expected to be mum all the time. It's about time she blew her top. Plus, we finally get to see Lois and Clark kissing -- just probably not the way we thought it'd be the first time. Anyhow, Batman and Superman used to dress up as each other to throw people off of their secret identity trail, so Clark posing as Green Arrow was actually kinda cool.
Have we seen the last of Miss Lake? We can only pray for something so fortuitous, because unfortunately the water pooling up after her splatter scene points to a return. Maybe Lex will have her join his secret Legion of Doom where she can ... keep people hydrated, yet still retain that bouncy curl. What's her secret, kryptonite conditioner?
Anyhow, it looks like Lana and Lex will be tying the knot, that is unless something wacky and wild happens ... and come on, what are the odds of that happening? They've gotta be astronomical.

Remember when this show wasn't really stupid? Those were the days.

BillS - Aside from Spelling's outrageaously bad performace, what was so bad about this episode?
I agree with Kevin in that I was relieved to finally have Chloe blow up about all the secrets she gets asked to keep. And certain secrets are now out in the open. (Lana's still in love with Clark, Lana's pregnancy).
Compared to the last few episodes, (the really bad immigrant episode comes to mind), in my opinion, this was definately one of the better ones.
Next week's episode should be really good, with the newly formed "Justice League".
I really hope the rumors are true and that the CW is "testing the waters" with next week's episode for a possible "Justice League" spin-off series, which would be awesome. (they kind of hinted at a possible Green Arrow series last night didn't they? with that Green Arrow Chronicles web thing?)

Sound travels in water. That's how Sonar works.
I agree w/ BillS. This show has "jumped the Shark" a while ago. But I still watch for thew small moments and cause Chloe is so cute! I want Lois to meet a tragic end and Chloe to grow up to be the real 'Lois Lane, girl reporter'.

It was definitely better than the previous few, but there hasn't been an episode all season that didn't have a pretty decent number of groan-worthy scenes.

Tom Welling's second episode as director wasn't bad at all. Now how will they handle a Justice League spinoff from Smallville?

It was worth it just to see Tori Spelling get hit by a car. The Lana/Lex soap opera needs to end. That is what is holding the show back. I like the Green Arrow stories and I wish they would keep him around. I am glad however the writers have realized this year sucks and they are trying to fix it because I noticed an improvement.
Also, anyone else noticed that Clark liked his little kiss with Louis?

I think we've seen the emergence of a new superpower - the Superkiss. Because it was quite clear that Lois like it - a lot - to the point of wanting some more kisses from "Green Arrow." (When I was a kid the comics used to mention Superman's superkisses. It was up there with - I swear - superventriloquism.)

I am a total Lana and Clark fan and I hoped they would get back together. Seeing Lana in the barn last night was so special; however, I hoped they would realize how much they still love each other and would get back together. No matter how much TPTB keep them apart, the chemistry they have together is still overwhelming! They are so beautiful together it makes me want to cry that they are forced to be with others!

I was a little thrown off because I thought this was supposed to be the formation of the Justice League, so you can imagine my chagrin when Tori Spelling popped on the screen in the first minute. Besides her though (well, it was pretty fun seeing Chloe give her a few licks), the episode was actually pretty good in my opinion. Regarding the last sentence in the post above, Clark really hasn't been forced to be with anyone else. He always gets screwed over in that department. Between Lana, him finally liking Chloe to find out she was now with Jimmy, to now enjoying the kiss with Lois when she's with Ollie, Clark never gets any action. They should just get rid of Jimmy and have Clark get together with Chloe; they have the best chemistry together.

On Bob's last sentence:
" They should just get rid of Jimmy and have Clark get together with Chloe; they have the best chemistry together."
There's a simple explanation for that. Welling's acting abilities are mediocre at best; Kreuk's are abysmal. Allison Mack, on the other hand, does outstanding work, and is up in the Glover/Rosenbaum tier of talent on this show. So Clark/Lana? Mediocre paired with talentless. Clark/Chloe? She raises the quality level of his acting.

I like Tori Spelling. She's had to hustle since her Pops died.
