Queer Eye For The Straight Guy, the once hugely popular makeover show on Bravo, has been canceled by the network. The series will have one last season coming up (titled Queer Eye: The Final Season). Design guru Thom Felicia gets his own show on the Style Network later this year.
This isn't a big surprise. Not only had ratings been dropping the last couple of years but the "buzz" that this show once had vanished completely. Personally, I got sick of all the "theme" blocks of episodes they did, like when the went to other areas of the country or did weddings. Nothing bores me more than planning a wedding, which I'm sure will thrill my fiancee in the future.
But it was once a great show, one that was on the surface all about, well, what's on the surface. But it was about making yourself better inside too, and that's (along with the personalities of the cast) what made the show a hit in the first place.

It seemed to me that the show became more of an informercial helmed by a group of guys who no longer like each other very much (if they ever did).
At some level - the message changed from one of personal renewal through the courage to change - to personal renewal via comped gifts from the following sponsors...

A good show but ultimately, I think it's run its course.

Good riddance. All I ever got from them was a bunch of really offensive Gay(tm) stereotypes. Yeah, yeah. You've heard from my type [of queer] before. "Not all of us put on the super affected fashionista drag that these guys do." But it's true. [Don't ask me how, but I _do_ love me some Runway, though.]

Yeah the last few seasons where they tried to mix things up with the weddings and other gimmicky stuff just totally threw off the feel of the show. The show officially jumped the shark when they became simply "Queer Eye."
