I thought that this would be the Hollywood relationship that would last.
You can have your TomKats, your Brangelinas, your Bennifers, your Vaughnistons. The couple that I thought would be together forever was Pivack. Wait, that sounds like a character from Star Trek. How about Cuven? God, that sounds like a cholesterol medication.
I'm talking about the longtime friendship between John Cusack and Entourage star Jeremy Piven. In a new interview in Best Life magazine, Piven hints that the friendship is over, and hints even harder that it's because Cusack was jealous of Piven's success. Or could it be because Piven changed after his success? Who knows.
This is sad. These two have been friends since they were kids and starred in many movies together, including Grosse Point Blank, One Crazy Summer, Runaway Jury, The Grifters, and Say Anything.
Maybe these two just need to hug it out? (And yes, I'm sure that line will be used by every single person who writes about this story.)

in what way has Piven changed?
Seems to me Cusack is upset he's not getting the roles he used. Maybe if he tried, I dunno, acting, he'd be further along. But no, he's played the same character in every role he's played. Any movie of his that Piven's played a supporting, I've always felt Piven steals the scenery.
But maybe that's just me. Though it would be nice to see Piven through Cusack a bone, for old time sake. Though I doubt Cusack could be the "seconde banana" as it was put.
Long live Piven's career.

Is it just me or is John Cusack actually STILL more famous and a better actor than Piven?

cmtdrt, you obviously havent been paying attention.
If you are a fan of cusack then you have seen a majority of his films. Therefore, you have seen plenty of Piven and probably laughed at alot of his lines. (he and John bounce off of each other very well)
If John is the source of this divide then it is pretty sad.

always loved both of them, tho after watching PCU with both commentary tracks back-to-back (piven's and hart bochner's)* the thought occured to me that piven's a bit full of himself. seeing his travel channel show has only confirmed that for me. i'm still able to enjoy his work (tho i've never actually seen entourage), but it also seems like all the work he got in the '80s was thanks to cusack.
i agree that it's sad to see them break up. makes me want to watch gross pointe blank over and over to cheer meself up.
*ps. i don't recommend this. it was tedious to the point of being painful, and downright bizarre. bochner just sounds like he's stoned (as he always does), but piven is on a rampage, constantly bitching that bochner wouldn't let him ad lib and made him stick to the script. every time droz has a funny line, piven yells, "that's the only ad libbed line he let me keep!" apparently there were a lot of those. interesting, since he wasn't allowed to improv at all.

Maybe Cusack finally realized Piven is a prick.

Another one they were in together: Serendipity (with Kate Beckinsale.)
Cusack's gotta stop making films like Must Love Dogs.

Both great actors, but I think Cusack still has more talent than Piven, even though I'm a big fan of Entourage.
And Piven seems to be a little bit full of himself nowadays... Cusack however appears to be a better person and keeps his private life quite well away from the public eye.

Maybe it's that Piven either is more like his Entourage character than we previously knew (clever, amusing a-hole), or else he is acting more like that character because that's what people expect from him, because it's funny.

Personally from watching interviews over the years, my thought is Piven is too full of himself since he won his Emmy. Cusack has always maintained this cool, I'm not part of Hollywood attitude. Maybe Piven has gone Hollywood and Cusack doesn't want to be part of it. I have a feeling it's something on each side and it's just they don't know how to deal with the changes in their lives. Sadly Piven puts it in the press when Cusack probably never would.

I have met them both. John is a fairly nice guy, Pivin is a less hyper version of the guy he plays on Entorage. He is very shallow and annoying. He is not acting on that show.

I don't care what anyone says. Friends always have ups and downs and it's not always clear why. Both of these men have talent and choose their own paths. It would be nice if others would stop second guessing and judging them and simply let them be.
