CSI: Miami: Internal Affairs

Rob Estes(S05E12) Good-bye Rob Estes. I am so glad his guest stint on CSI: Miami didn't last long because he played a total ass. This was probably the best episode of the season and I'm not saying that just because I hated the character of Nick Townsend. If you actually think about how this episode played out, the way it was written, and how the few characters involved were all connected at the end, it was very well done.

There were a lot of things that I liked about this episode actually. Giving more time to some lesser characters (Jake and Valera) was very cool to see. It was also funny to see the night shift team and how inept they are. But nothing beats Horatio and those canned one-liners. I missed those.

First off, let's talk about Jake. For those that didn't catch the episode, Jake (he's become a homicide detective since he left the ATF) and the night shift CSI team handled the case since Nick had a relation to someone on Horatio's team (Natalia's ex-husband). Let's be blunt: Jake sucks as an investigator. Horatio constantly harping on him, offering advice, and generally just embarrassing Jake was downright hilarious. H can be so vindictive at times and I love it.

Despite Jake originally accusing Natalia, and Valera subsequently owning up to the murder herself, you knew neither of them had done it. I was, however, surprised that Natalia had still been sleeping with Nick. Despite her warnings to Valera of how abusive he can be, Natalia had still been over there recently. That part I didn't get. She wasn't heeding her own advice?

Other thoughts:

  • Random seeing Jake Busey as one of Nick's co-workers. Am I the only one who liked Shasta McNasty?
  • What's with Jake's lip? Why would Calleigh have been dating a guy who looks like who he was making out with a garbage disposal?
  • I was really hoping to see a full-blown fist fight between Nick and Delko.
  • What happened to Wolfe and the documentary team following him around? This would have been a prime case for them to try and get dirt on.

Overall though, the connection between the other victim, his therapist, and her husband was laid out well -- something this show doesn't do too often. Nick's thieving at crime scenes caught up to him. Good riddance.
