Aqua Teen Hunger Force: Carl Wash (season finale)

Shake, Meatwad, and Carl.(S04E13) Well this was a long time coming. I had been paying close attention to online schedules (for a while now), waiting for this episode to air. As far as I knew, it was supposed to play this past Sunday. Instead, it was a repeat airing of "Dickesode." Well guess what? "Carl Wash" already aired! Way back on December 22 in the 3:30AM time-slot no less. At least that's what the ATHF wikipedia page says. Can you believe that? I didn't think Adult Swim did stealth premieres anymore. Especially for one of their most popular shows. Wouldn't that kill any chance for ratings? Oh well.

Anyway, I feel like I'm last in on the joke though because after just a few minutes of searching, I found numerous discussion boards talking about the episode and then I found a site that was actually streaming it. Better late that never. It's a good one.

The basic story focused on Meatwad (nice change of pace there) as he entered the world of the working stiff. He got a job at a car wash run by two floating brains: Carl and Carl Jr. They never had any intention to wash cars. They wanted to lure people in and steal their brains for who knows what. That was Meatwad's main function -- to get people in the front door. Naturally, Carl seemed like a good target.

At this point, the show did something that I've thought about numerous times before. What else can Meatwad morph into? We knew about a hot-dog, an igloo, and President Lincoln holding a sword (although he didn't do that in this one). What else has he got up his sleeve? The American hello. The bird. The finger. OK, so it's anti-climactic. But for whatever reason, Meatwad flipping someone off is hilarious. I couldn't stop laughing.

Carl and Carl Jr.Random question in the middle of the post: am I crazy or does Carl Brain remind you of Christopher Walken? It's all I could think about when he comes back with the blue hair wig in place. Moving on.

The dialogue in this episode actually reminded me a lot of Family Guy. It was fast-paced, quick, and smart. Felt different but it worked. Pretty much anything said by the two brains was funny stuff. That and the entire car wash process:

  1. Dump trash water over vehicle.
  2. Force numerous captured felines to urinate on said vehicle.
  3. Bash roof of vehicle in question with hammers.
  4. Finally, spray-paint vehicle yellow and green.

See? Clean! In closing, as we prepare for the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie, heed the words of Carl Brain:

"We are all Carls."
