Actor Drake Hogestyn, who plays 'John Black' on Days of our Lives and has perfected the 'smells a fart'-style of acting, had his very own real-life soap opera drama on New Year's Eve. He and his family were in the backyard of their California home when a deranged fan burst in with a bible, claiming he was going to exorcise the devil from Hogestyn. The man, Carl Raymond Cheney, obviously thought that Hogestyn was his alter-ego. He made reference to some older episodes of Days and claimed he could cast the devil from Hogestyn. (I don't keep up with Days, but I thought it was Marlena who was possessed by the devil)Court records show that Cheney chased Hogestyn's daughter and pushed his wife before Hogestyn grabbed the man by the hair, swung him around and punched him in the chin. It was probably better than any action sequence that has ever aired on Days of our Lives. Hogestyn and his son subdued the psychotic fan with duct tape until police arrived.

OMG smells a fart style of acting?? and subduing the guy with duct tape? I can't stop laughing.....
Yes it was marlena who was possessed by the devil....but seriously I can't believe this doesn't happen to other soap opera actors more often, don't they all act possessed by the devi on occasion? Perhaps you have to be possessed by the devil to watch... hmmmm

Actually, John Black was a priest at the time and performed Marlena's exorcism and if I remember correctly the demon left her body and possessed him briefly before being cast out. I guess the deranged fan stopped watching before the casting out...but wasn't that like 15 years ago??

"smells a fart-style of acting,"
That is just too funny. Also reminds me of my mother (who hates daytime soaps) remarking that Soap Actors practiced the "constipated-and-relieved method of acting."

As a lifelong fan of Days of Our Lives and in particular, Drake Hogestyn, I was appalled and concerned to read this story.
I'm really pleased he is o.k.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Drake and his family.

Even though this story is actually a little disturbing, it is still one of the best stories I have ever read. I am a lifelong Days fan and yes, it was Marlena that was possessed.
I particularly enjoyed the part of the story where Drake swung the man by the hair and later subdued him w/ duct tape. My mother is in love with Drake so I cannot wait to tell her this story, LOL.

I really felt bad when I read about the event in Drakes family. I hope they will all be o.k. I have watched Days since the beginning. Love the show even though it gets a little bit out of hand at times.
