Even though watching reruns of Seinfeld is now considered lame, it's still fun to see the old episodes where now-famous actors had bit parts. Pete McEntegart over at Sports Illustrated is talking about Seinfeld again and he has listed the Top 10 before-the-were-famous Seinfeld guests. Some of them are actually in classic episodes with some classic quotes that we've been saying for years. His list includes Teri ("They're real and they're spectacular") Hatcher as Jerry's well-endowed girlfriend, Mariska Hargitay as an actress auditioning for the role of Elaine, Marcia Cross as dermatologist Dr. Sara "Pimple-Popper" Sitarides, Michael Chiklis as a party host, and Courtney Cox as Jerry's girlfriend who claims to be his wife to get discounted dry cleaning. Missing from the list (even the honorable mentions) is Bryan Cranston, who played the dad on Malcolm in the Middle for 7 years. On Seinfeld, he played Dr. Tim Whatley, the dentist who converted to Judaism just so he could make the jokes.

I am curious about all of you who seem to think that Seinfeld sucked so bad, yet seem to know so much about it ! Can you explain this to me ? If a show dosen't grab me in one or two episodes, I just don't watch it. Give it a try ! Altough already a veteran actor, my favorite has to be Jerry Stiller. SERENETY NOW !!!

My dear Madam XXX, Larry David was also the salesman in the streetside food stand who rejected George's defaced $20 bill. I didn't know that he was the back of George's boss's head. Go figure. Sarge

Didn't David James Elliot (later to star in JAG) play the furniture mover that Elaine had the hots for, until she found out he was Pro-Life in the season 6 episode called "The Couch"?

James Spader was terrific in "The Apology," but he was already a movie star by the time he did the "Seinfeld" episode. Plus, he is a very good friend of Jerry's in real life.

I've always liked Kathy Griffin's portrayal of Sally, the obnoxious wanna-be actress who creates a one-woman show titled "Jerry Seinfeld is The Devil". And since when is Christine Taylor considered famous? She's coattails-famous, at best.

Christine Taylor as Jerry's girlfriend Ellen.
She is so perfect and I guess that was her downfall.

I don't think I'd call that 10 stars. Definitely 3 "stars" there. I never heard of the other 7 by name alone so in my mind they're not stars. Anyone else ever hear of anyone in the list other than Courtney Cox, Teri Hatcher and Michael Chiklis? They're the only 3 I knew.

They mentioned Daniel Dae Kim as one of the medical students... but if you watch the extras in the background, you can also see Brian Posehn as one of the other "actors".

They put Lauren Graham in the honorable mentions, but left off her Gilmore Girls co-star Scott Patterson (aka Luke Danes) who played the role of Elaine's sponge-worthy boyfriend.

How about Scott Patterson (Luke on Gilmore Girls) who Elaine considered if he was "spongeworthy"!

Seinfeld also gave Jag's David James Elliot his big break when he played the anti abortion furniture moving boyfriend of Elaine.

I didn't see the Frasier girl that played a virgin. Unless I missed it.

Did anyone mention W. Earl Brown from Deadwood.
He's Jerry's friend who was set up with Elaine.

The honorable mentions are bigger stars than the top ten.
Also, why is the list on Sports Illustrated's web site?

I always thought it was funny how some of the actresses playing Jerry's girlfriends seemed to get younger and younger as the show went on... like A.J. Langer, who was on one of the later episodes just a year after playing high-schooler Rayanne on "My So-Called Life."

I thought Philip Baker Hall, who played the aptly named library cop Lt. Bookman in "The Library" episode, was one of the funniest guest stars on Seinfeld.

You're kidding, right? Mariska Hargitay? Catherine Keener? Peter Krause? You have to get out more. Meanwhile, there are people in the honorable mentions that are more famous than those three!

Not a favorite, but how about Brenda Strong as Sue Ellen Mischke? Not sure if she was already a "star" by then or not.

This game is more fun when you substitue "The Cosby Show" for "Seinfeld". These people are not big stars. Gilmore Girls? Whatever...
