Comic Reymundo developing new comedy for Showtime

alex reymundoAlex Reymundo, one of the comedians featured in the concert film The Original Latin Kings of Comedy, will star in a new series on Showtime called Hick-Spanic, or, as The Simpsons writing staff might call it, ""Ethnic Mismatch Comedy #644."

Reymundo is developing the comedy, which, like most TV vehicles created for stand-up comics, is loosely based on his own life. Reymundo will play a man of Mexican descent whose wife is a white hillbilly. Their families are engaged in a constant battle over which of their children got the better deal.

Perhaps this idea could work, but I would be more interested in seeing a spin-off involving the couple's offspring: a band of Mexican hillbillies. They could take the ethnic stereotypes to absurd levels as the kids, decked out in nothing but bib overalls and oversized sombreros spend their days hunting squirrels and then wrapping the woodland creatures in tortilla shells and eating them -- at least when they're not making out with one another. Also, they make bootleg tequila.
