More precisely, you can learn about Hell on the History Channel tonight at 8pm by watching Hell: The Devil's Domain. Forgive my morbidity, but I'm endlessly fascinated by the idea of Hell in all its various forms: from the Biblical version to Dante's Inferno to the Greek myth of Hades. All those demons and damned souls always put an extra little spring in my step. I'm sick and I need help, I know.
The two-hour special will include a story about a man who believes he went to Hell during a near-death experience, a person who believes he witnessed a cannibalistic witches' coven in a past life, and a look at the Church of Satan. The special will also explore the concept of the afterlife through the perspective of Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism and Islam.
What the special doesn't have is an interview with Satan himself. After I spoke with him back in June, he agreed to sit down with me again for a very brief interview:
Adam: Thanks for seeing me again.
Satan: No problem, Carl.
Adam: Adam.
Satan: Right.
Adam: You look different from the last time we spoke.
Satan: I can take any form.
Adam: And you chose Colonel Sanders?
Satan: No, I'm Tom Wolfe.
Adam: No, you're Colonel Sanders.
Satan: Well, they were both great writers.
Adam: Uh huh. Have you seen this special yet?
Satan: No, and I don't plan to. They didn't even try to contact me.
Adam: You seem bitter.
Satan: It's fine, I'm used to being misrepresented. Plus, I ate too much at lunch and I'm feeling a little sick. Forgive me if I seem rude.
Adam: What did you eat?
Satan: A human baby.
Adam: Oh.
Satan: With my secret blend of herbs and spices. Plus a side of coleslaw.
Adam: Thank you, this has been pointless.
Satan: No problem, Walter.
UPDATE: History Channel had the word "Premiere" attached to this special on their site, leading me to believe it was new. It's actually from 2004. Regardless, it still looks interesting.

Interesting show. I only caught bits and pieces, but, shows like this make me wish I were able to believe in the whole Heaven/Hell/God thing. Common sense, reality, and an ingrained skepticism keep me from believing in any kind of god.
The whole church of Satan thing was interesting, too. Belief in eye for an eye. No belief in an afterlife. If it weren't for the Gothic overtones, I could see this becomming more mainstream. It's a shame they have to worship anyone, though.
