The Five: Funny music videos not featuring Weird Al - VIDEO

skeletonI caught the video for Paul Simon's "Call Me Al" on VH1 Classic the other night, the one in which Chevy Chase lip syncs to the song, and it got me thinking about other funny music videos. I thought it would be a great idea for one of these "The Five" lists we bloggers love so much, and as I was racking my brain I realized I could just simply list five Weird Al Yankovic videos.

But no, Adam loves a challenge, so Weird Al is off limits. After the jump, check out the five videos I came up with, along with a little help from my pal Wild Bill. Throw down some of your own suggestions in the comments.

Let's rock:

"Call Me Al" by Paul Simon

We knew Chevy Chase was a funny guy, but this video, directed by Lorne Michaels, is also a testament to Paul Simon's comedic chops. He plays the straight man perfectly, sitting bored and annoyed as Chevy selfishly takes over on vocals. Call me crazy, but I really miss the funny Chevy Chase.

"Sabotage" by the Beastie Boys

Before he moved on to feature films like Adaptation and Being John Malkovich, Spike Jonze was one of the most inspired music video directors of the '90s. His video for "Sabotage," an homage to the detective shows of the 1970s, is doubly fun to watch when you realize how much fun the band is having making the video.

"Keep Fishin'" by Weezer

Here's a tip for anyone who wants to make a fun music video: feature the Muppets. The boys of Weezer perform with the Muppets "singing" backing vocals while Animal plays the drums. Pat, the band's usual drummer, is nowhere to be found, bound up in his dressing room by the amorous Miss Piggy. Weezer's upbeat, bouncy song and the Muppets' zaniness mesh together perfectly in this video.

"Praise You" by Fatboy Slim

The second Spike Jonze video on this list, and a fine example of guerrilla filmmaking. Rather than go the usual route of placing an audio track over the video, the song comes from a boombox as Spike and the "Torrance Community Dance Troupe" dance in the middle of a mall to the mixed amusement and confusion of everyone. The dance moves make me laugh everytime, even though it pains me to say they still dance way better than I do.

"Just A Gigolo" by David Lee Roth

Probably the most dated video on this list, as Roth slides, shakes and gyrates through a studio spoofing '80s icons like Michael Jackson and Cyndi Lauper, but I love it because Roth clearly loved everything about being a rock star: the women, the tight varicolored clothing, the crazy hair, and the adoring fans. In the '90s, his kind would be replaced by moody introspective types like Kurt Cobain and Billy Corgan, and while I was a huge fan of Nirvana back in my high school days, I can't help but admire Roth's attitude that it's okay to lighten the hell up once in awhile.
