Over the holidays while I was back in Iowa visiting family, my mother and I stayed up late one night engaging in one of those perpetual conversations about "God vs. Science." Like anyone else, I have my own feelings about how the universe operates, so when I was sent this link to a new boardgame from Growing Pains hunk turned evangelical Kirk Cameron and minister Ray Comfort called Intelligent Design Vs. Evolution, you can bet my brain lit up with about a dozen opinions.

Cameron and Comfort gained some Web notoriety with their banana video, in which a banana is used to refute atheism. Their boardgame is also designed to tout Intelligent Design over Evolution, and since we live in a free country where people can create and market toys and games however they see fit, I really have no problem with it. I would never buy the game myself, but why should other people be denied the chance to play a game that includes small rubber brains?

When I see games like this, I can't help but think there has to be Christians burying their heads in their hands and mournfully wondering why their beliefs are being represented by the likes of Kirk Cameron. I imagine some religious person screaming at their computer screen: "We're not all like that!"

I understand. I feel the same way when I listen to certain atheists go off on religion, making all non-believers seem like smug, arrogant jerks. Thoughtful people can disagree and still adhere to their own beliefs, but far too often the loudest voices on either side are the ones you wish would just shut the hell up.
