According to the AP, the producers of the classic PBS children's show Mister Rogers Neighborhood want to create a new show. Kevin Morrison, the CEO of Family Communications, Inc. told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that they are in talks with producers of various children's shows about creating a new program that is completely different from the one Fred Rogers hosted from 1968 to 2001. Rogers died in 2003.No concrete plans were reported, but even Rogers' widow, Joanne, seems to be in favor of the move. "I really think Fred would be proud of the organization for trying to continue their leadership in the field of children's television," she told the Post-Gazette.
To be honest with you, Mister Rogers always bored the heck out of me, even when I was a little kid. I don't know if it was Fred's sleepy tone of voice or the not-cartoonish-enough puppets he used, but I always remember watching the show and wondering when Sesame Street was going to start. By the time the show ended, its age was showing. Let's hope his producers pick a more modern show that's as entertaining for kids as well as their parents.

I have to say that I disagree about the show being boring. Especially as I got older, I think the show got better for me. I don't think it was too preachy although I thought it would be. I really liked Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood.

Mister Rogers boring? You obviously saw the show through different eyes than I did. I have even been recording Mister Rogers' Neighborhood to share with the children in my life now. With all of the garbage out there these days, kids need the positive influence of Mister Rogers now more than ever. As for me, I know exactly what I want to do first when I get to Heaven....See Jesus, reunite with my mother and grandparents, and meet Mister Rogers!
